Its official... I am a dumbass!

Post by kerioke »

I have spent days researching and using genetic calculators, but only having internet access from my blackberry isn't exactly helping!!

I have six ringnecks and am trying to find the best pairing results. I have two aims; My first aim is business... I want the most colour possibilities. My second aim is personal. I would like to breed towards cobalts, violets etc.

So here's what I have! Turquoise male, Lutino male, pastel blue male, albino hen, grey hen and a green lacewing hen (who some argue is a yellow headed cinnamon).

From my research I think the turquoise cock bird and green lacewing hen would give some interesting chicks? But I'm still at odds what to do with the other 4...

Any help would be much appreciated! :D

turquoise is the new name for a pastel blue bird so both birds should be the same and the only way to get violet is to have a violet-green or blue violet bird and same for cobalt you need a dark factor green split blue or a cobalt bird

No they are definitely different... Perhaps the terminology is different here in the UK? I have the pastel blue, but the one known as turquoise is like a peacock green with a blue shimmer over it.

Hi;

Ther are many types of parblues in IRN (pastel or turquoise, acqua, indigo, ... and probably some others still to be defined). Maybe you have two different parblues. Could you post a pic?

I was sold a female as a "Pastel Blue", I believe the terminology varies on who you speak too and now refer to her as "Turquoise" or "Turquoise Blue" and that is how I sold her chick who had a similar coloring. I have viewed many pictures trying to work this out for sure but I'm still not 100% because colors vary between birds.

Personally the amount of color variations in IRN's baffles me. I'm currently in the process of developing a page on my website with pictures of each color mutation but I will be probably require some help with images if anyone can donate images for use. I think this would be of great use for terminology and distinguishing each colour mutation. :wink:

The variations in turquoise is the cause of great debate among breeders. You are better off staying away from this. Best you take a pic of a turq cock with a white neck ring and one of a pink neck ring. This way you show the variation in two examples for your website.
