Hello fellow bird owners :)

Post by tallison »

Just thought I as the board suggests and introduce myself / us.

Family of 5 living in Walnut Creek CA.

We just purchased a pair (Male / Female) IRNs and I will be posting some questions as to how to care for them in another forum.

The are beautiful Birds but my bloody hands and arms have had enough :(

We were told the female is 6 months and the male 9 months but the male already has is markings which I understand takes like 2 years... The male is very UNSOCIAL!!

I look forward to any advice, tips or tricks you may have to help!

Thanks
Tony

I don't know much about social behaviour, or what may be causing them to act so violently, but I have heard that pairs are often more into eachother than they are people. Hopefully someone here who knows more can help you :( Is there an avian vet that you could call and talk to?

Hi and welcome.

Are your new ringies handraised or tame?
IF they are the age as stated, they could be going through the bluffing stages (see behaviour and taming section of the forum for ways to handle this), or perhaps they have not been handled much or in a while. I have a couple of babies from last season that I raised and have not given the one on one time and they are cranky atm. Also how you react to when they show aggression can aggravate the situation. Watch their body language for eye pinning etc to help minimize attacks and bites.
