I thought i knew

Post by loverbird »

When I got my indian ringneck green Romeo from the man selling him in the paper I thought I had some idea what this was going to be like. You see romeo is my second go with this breed my first Rex was a petland reject whom had ripped out all of his feathers never been touched and had no intentions of doing so. I started working at Petland (I know dont hate me I understand it was a mistake now) about a year after rex had started his run from store to store, I knew nothing about birds other than I knew if I tried hard enough he would warm up, and he did five months later I took him home he was perfect, friendly, was learning how to talk and everything was going great until one day he got his leg caught in his cosmic links and broke it, he didnt make it through the amputation surgery. I was heart broken but determind to rehabilitate another of the 'crazy' and 'too far gone' birds. Romeo belonged to a man who was attempting to breed a pair in a cage not fit for a single ringneck let alone two, the man had never handled either of the 3.5 year old birds and after Romeo killed his mate his owner no longer had use for him and was wanting to sell. Knowing this would be a task I figured not much harder than the first I took him imediatly. I have had romeo for about two years now and nothing has changed I talk to him from a distance and give him the option of leaving his cage whenever he desires which is hardly ever but he throws into screaming fits when I am within a foot of his cage, he is however learning to talk but I just want him to lead a happy ringneck life. I've run out of ideas. some one please help

Wow! Bless your heart for giving Romeo a good, loving home. I thought I had my hands full with my Byndi. But at least I can kind of touch him and he doesn't scream much any more. And he does come out of his cage on a daily basis and plays on the playstand. I wish I had some advice to give you. But I'm pretty new to this IRN parronting too. I love mine to pieces, as I'm sure you do. Hopefully someone on here will have some words of wisdom for you. There are a bunch of very insightful members! And they all are so helpful. Thank you for giving this poor bird a loving home. Even tho' it may be too late for him to come around and be a "pet". Keep in touch and let us know what's going on. Best of luck.

when we first got indie we put the cage beside the computer desk.i used the computer frequently so i was talking to her at the time (now he)after about a week indie got to realise we werent going to hurt him and started getting a little bit friendlier.so my partner chucked on some gardening gloves and he was a bit freightened but eventually got used to it now if he is out you cant get away from him because he just loves to be near us. also find something that the ring neck likes to eat and only you give it to it for a while then it hopefully will only squark at you for treats
