Hi from NSW Australia

Post by Bobbijo2354 »

Hi everyone, my name is Bobbijo and I live in country NSW. I am not the owner of a Indian Ringneck yet, but I am picking mine up mid next week. I stumbled across this forum whilst researching IRN's before deciding whether it would be the bird for me. I've found some great info, and I think this forum is going to serve me and my IRN well.

Me and my husband have no children yet, but we have quite a family already, with our 2 dogs, 2 guinea pigs, and several pens of poultry, including chickens, ducks and quail.

I Don't work at the moment, and instead I am completing a law degree, so I am literally home ALL the time. And want a feathered friend to share my days with, as my furry friends live outside.

I am very excited about getting my baby IRN. He is blue, and has just been weaned. I can't wait to get to know him, and get to know all of you on here! I'm sure all your help and advice will be priceless.

I picked up my new baby today! He is so beautiful. But A little nervous and scared. He is quite happy in his new house and is exploring his cage and touching his thousand things, just getting to know his surrounds. He has only been out of the nest for a week and a half, And the breeder has suggested try hand feeding him for a while. I have some and stuff. I'm just not sure how should go about feeding him seeing as he is quite nervous. Anyone help me please? I have also posted a couple of questions in the taming section. Thanks.

Yep thanks. I've got it sorted out now. He is actually much more confident and friendly then I expected. He is the first parrot ive owned and I am already shocked at his intelligence! I got him out to feed him and had to towel him at first, but as soon as he realized I was giving him yummy food he calmed down and was happy to sit in my lap. He had a bit of a fly around the room and landed on the curtain rail, so I put my hand near him and he stepped up straight away and was happy for me to sit him on my lap and scratch his head.

This is a bird raised in an aviary with his parents! And already he trusts me enough to climb onto me. He listens very closely to every word I say, and watches everything I do, even though he is still a bit wary of loud noises and sudden movements. But Heis much much tamer than I expected! I am so happy and I love him already! Now he just needs a name!

here is my baby. He is blue, but he looks a little darker than some other blues I have seen. His mother is a blue and his father a violet.

Wow, that sure is one pretty little fella. Congrats :)

Food is a huge motivator for them to come to you I have found. So if you find what his fav food is and just use it for training purposes, he may be more inclined to learn quicker.

We have decided on the name Zephyr for our baby boy. He is doing very well, eating lots, and really enjoying sitting on my shoulder and arm for some treats. His favorites so far are sunflower seeds and apple, although he quite likes lettuce, sweet potato, peas, and corn. And he has learnt to crack open his seeds very well. He's eating about 5-8 mL a feed and having three feeds a day, one at about 8 am, then 5pm and 10pm. Do you think this is enough food? He has fresh veggies and fruit in his cage all the time too, and seeds as his parents were on a mainly seed diet, and he isn't eating the seed/fruit/veg in front of me unless I hold it for him, but he is taking the food out of his bowl when I'm not there.

I just want to be sure he is getting enough as I'm not certain how much he needs, his crop never feels REALLY full but is only been completely empty in the morning, after he's been sleeping. He is active and happy and has been making beak grinding noises at me so I think he is ok, I just would like some reassurance, or to be told if I am doing something wrong!

Thanks heaps

You birds are beautiful! Yes he is flying quite well as he has come from the aviary and got alot of practice, he's a bit wobbly on his landing on the ground, but can land well on the curtain rods, bookshelves and anything else he can perch on! He's started to work out that if he steps up he doesn't need to fly and crash land 'cause o take him where he needs to go! Spoilt already! But he is so hard to say no to! He is just too cute!
