My bird loves my husband

Post by Royce »

Royce loves my husband, he'll step onto his had whenever he asks, will take food from him, loves to be near him etc....Royce hates me, he moves to the other side of the cage when I enter the room, he barley takes food form me and rarely lets me take him out of the cage.

Is Royce bonded to my husband now? We've had him for about 3 months now. If I keep working with him will he bond with me? or will he always like my husband better?

Royce is 6 months old. We've never had a bird before. I wanted a bird my husband did not. I am seriously thinking about selling him and trying again with a different bird. But I love Royce, should I keep trying?

I'd encourage you to perservere with Royce. He will probably always have a slightly stronger bond with your husband but you can certainly work on the bond he has with you. With time and perserverence, I'm sure it will improve. Make sure you figure out his favourite foods... and I'd ensure that you're the only one giving them to him for a while.

It takes a while to build trust, keep at it!

Our blue IRN, Janey, is bonded more strongly with my husband but I can still interact with her really well.

Good luck!

Ellie.

P.S. Have you tried training Royce to do any tricks yet? This can really help build a bond between you and it also stimulates the bird's cognitive abilities too. I've written some instructions on how to do this at http://www.indianringneck.com/forum/vie ... und#p65327
