Hi
I'm new to this forum and I'm kind of new to looking after birds, I've actually had my ring neck for a month now and it has not warmed up to me at all, it gets scared and flies to other side of the cage.
I keep the cage jus outside next to the door on the wall, is this alright? He gets all the right treatment plenty of seeds plenty of fruit fresh water and the works, I just dnt know where to start to get him (or her havnt really sexed it yet oh and it was bout 7 months when I got it
Well just some pointers would be very very much appreciated heheh coz I love the guy n I hate seeing it stressed

Re: New 7 month IRN need Help!!
Hi Wallbz
Welcome to the forum.
IRNs are social birds and like to be a part of a flock. They can adopt you as part of their flock but only if they spend enough time with you. If you keep the cage outside I don't think he is going to tame down very easily because he doesn't get enough interaction wiht you. There is nothing wrong with keeping his cage outside providing he is safe from other creatures and the temperatures aren't too extreme.... but it will probably make it harder to tame him.
They like to be able to observe you going about your everyday tasks so I suggest bringing him inside and placing him in a position where people in your home spend a lot of time going about everyday tasks. Some people bring them into their study. We place ours in the dining room that adjoins the kitchen.
If you want to have a hand tame bird, you will need to win him over gradually using food. I'm not sure whether your aim is to get him out of the cage and like spending time with you or whether you just want him to not flutter everywhere when you come close or tend to his cage. If you want a hand tame bird, there is advice on how to do this on the forum.
Good luck!
Ellie.
