Meet Emmy.......

Post by Lisa's Tiki »

Here is my newest addition:
Image
She is a 2 ½ year old Nanday Conure. I was wanting to add to my fid family and I found this ad in the local Pennysaver for her. The original owners were selling her, because they were recently divorced and they were not able to spend much time with her anymore. She is so sweet and very smart. Her name was Ozzy, but that reminded me of Ozzy Ozbourne, which did not thrill me to much since he is known for biting the heads off of doves, then on top of that my bosses husband’s name is Ozzy, so I didn’t want to be reminded of work every time I talked to my new baby! So I started a round about way of coming up with a new name. I shortened Ozzy to Oz as in The Wizard of Oz, then thought of The Emerald City, and Ozzy is emerald green, so I shortened emerald to Emmy! She just loves to be apart of EVERYTHING! Yesterday she just rode around on my shoulder for most of the day. She gives kisses, LOVES to dance and chirp sing along with music, but ONLY if you are dancing and singing as well. She was in the bathroom with me this morning and when I turned on the water to rinse my toothbrush out, she jumped in for a quick bath. If you give her scritches she will say “Ooooh Yah!” and as we were leaving for work/school this morning she said “Bye Bye”. She also says “What?” and “pretty bird”. She is a VERY good bird and we are so excited that she has joined our family! I hope her and Tiki get along okay. Right now they are afraid of each other. Tiki would not talk for about 2 to 3 hours after I brought Emmy home, but I guess he figured this new bird was here to stay and he started jabbering away again.

LOL Mikaela!

Just tell your husband/family that you want to have another baby... ;)

Thats probably the biggest reason my husband tolerates my crew. I wanted more children and couldn't have them... so instead I get a room full of feathered toddlers.

Of course he's addicted too, he has his babies who I must tolerate too. Nothing like a macaw telling you "Back off woman!" anytime she catches you near your own husband!

Beautiful nanday! I have a soft spot for them, but all conure screams rattle my brain so I like to admire them from out of hearing distance :)

Amen to that Athena!! My gosh, my sister has a Mitred Conure and his scream can pierce your ear from miles away. And when he gets going he doesn't stop. Yowza! He's a beautiful bird, but that scream is something else.

Oh the scream doesn't bother me that much, but sometimes it does feel like I am in the middle of the jungle with two cockatiels and Indian ringneck and now a conure. It makes it REALLY hard to hear the TV sometimes!

I'm with you there girls !!!

I would love to fill my place up, adopt, bird sit , everything.

Hubby loves Kai alot, but when I mention another bird (in the future) he gets all up in arms. Although he has been ok about my talk of getting kai a mate in the future and breeding, so if I can gain the confidence and knowledge to do that and be able to care for them, woohoo.

I am also going to sneak my son a lovebird, I figure once my son suddenly has it , lets see if hubby can take it away from him, hehehe, no way Jack.

I would have had much more than 3 children too Athena but also couldn't have more due to risk to my life and the babies. So I guess that is why my drive to get a new baby of other sorts was strong too.

Mikaela,
You are too funny! Your posts make me laugh. Guess I'm lucky cuz my honey doesn't like birds either but he tolerates me and them. And he's actually really getting into Remmi! He's holding him and talkiing to him all the time. And he actually admitted to me he likes him! And I so hold that against him. Tee hee.

Jamie loves to pretend he doesn't like my birds but funny enough, he started off my parrot obsession and got all upset when I referred to the King parrots on this site as 'my birds'. I had to compromise and tell him that yes, he is also their daddy.....MEN.....Can't shoot 'em....

I must be soooooo lucky, James loves all of our critters and he favours Datsun above them all. I can honestly fight with him over who gets to have the first snuggle in the morning!

When we found Datsun I was looking for a rabbit but there she was, showering everyone in the shop with water from her bowl and he looked at me (I was already convinced) and said "That is a cool bird!" Oh man it was all downhill from there!!!

Dats loves everyone, but she is both a mummys and a daddys girl at times. She loves neither of us more but prefers different people at different times. We even have an agreement if we were ever to break up we would have shared custody  I DONT SHARE!!! Hopefully we wont ever have to face that!
