Dears,
Thanks for this very helpful useful loving and caring forum.
I have bought a since the past two months a 4 Months old yellow IRN as I was informed by pets shop but I don't know how true is that information, anyways It wings are clipped and I have it on a pole and under it the cage with its food inside and the door always open, the bird during the playful he wakes us up since 5 in the morning. He jumps in and out of the cage and usually he sits on the top of cage and pole.
He is full of life even with our presence some times he even come down and walk around us.
I had experience before with my old african grey congo taming the IRN seems much harder, my problem with my IRN it gets scared badly from hands and catching it by force he screams loudly and open it wings and bites, as long as we are little anyway from the cage he feel secured.
Hand feeding I tried so many methods it never worked, no matter how many different methods I tried. I am very disappointed with the reaction of this bird and almost giving away I am thinking to try a final method making it starve for food then try to hand feed it, any directions or guide lines for such a method ?
Looking forward your great experience sharing.
Best Regards,

Re: New Yellow IRN
Hello
Sorry to hear you are having trouble with your new IRN I had a similar experience with my bird as I think they hurt her when they were catching her in the pet shop and now she will let me touch her on the head but will not let me pick her up and she bites. I have had her now for 8 years and she really is a lovely girl just had a bad experience when she was young. You will hopefully be able to train yours being so young and there are dvd's available on the net you can get some ideas from.
I dont think starving is a good idea as they can get very sick if they lose weight, I think you just have to persevere and gain her trust and this will take time.
I hope this helps

Re: New Yellow IRN
let your IRN chose when she is ready to interact. Put her in the room with you, and open the cage. let her go back in the cage whenever she wants and NEVER put your hands in her cage to grab her. It has to be HER territory. Eventually she will become curious (IRNS are very curious and fast learners.) and come to see what you are doing.
This process may take days or years. Never punish or starve your IRN as she will never gain your trust that way, Let her see you bring her food and water, put toys around her cage and let her decide what to play with. birds are not domesticated like cats and dogs and are not goifng to respond to those types of training tactics.
Giver her time and lots of space. allow her to chose.
Good Luck!
