Advice on breeding?

Post by Lover-of-all-birds »

Hi
im new here, im fairly new to keeping ringnecks, i have 1 pair male is 3 years old, female is 4 years old, both green,
as far as i know this is there first time breeding, i placed the nest box on the cage 25th january, and they have been
in and out since then, mainly the female digging all the wood shavings out lol, i caught them mating today :) how long after mating do they lay eggs? ive been reserching the internet and books but there dosent seem to be a lot of information about irns, can anyone give me some advice/ or suggest any links etc where i can find out more about them,
do they make good pets hand reared? im planning on hand rearing the bubs (i have experience in hand rearing ive done cockatiels and rosellas breed by me, also ive breed budgies and finches) ive been keeping birds for about 10 years and at the moment i have 14 fids :)

Hi,
I am a new breeder also and I can tell you about my parrots. They are all IRN and they started mating on Jan /25 a little after the females started going in and out the nest box. It is now Feb/ 18 and they are still mating. Two pairs are still going in and out the nest box but the other one I think is already on eggs as I don't see the female coming out of it as much, she comes out and mate again and goes back to the nest box and some times the male goes in the box I think to feed her and spends alot of time in there with her. She sleeps in her nest box with the male. I was told that after they mate you should see eggs in about a week and let me tell you that this guys have been mating for almost a month lol. They look very healthy and I know that is only matter of time for the other two pairs to have eggs. I haven't check the box for the lutinos which is the pair that I think is on eggs. I have experience hand feeding and training IRN but this is my first time breeding.

Yes I check this morning and there are three eggs in the nest box of my lutinos and I think she will lay some more. The other two pairs are still mating and they have nothing yet but I will check in a week. And congratulations on your egg lol. So they are all a little different and the time may vary a little.
