Sending and Aussie Hello from myself and my lovely babies..

Post by Roxxy »

Hello all,

Been reading these Boards for a few days now and thought it's about time to introduce myself if I am hoping to feel at home :P

I am a proud owner of two new and young additions to my family;

Chickee is my 7 week old Lutino Cockatiel
Koko is approximately the same age and is an Olive Indian Ringneck

I also have a family of dogs and cats, sounds excessive to some but I have always been surrounded by animals and love them all, my kids have also developed a compassionate and caring nature towards animals and I am proud of that.

I live in Sydney, Australia. I hope to learn knowledge and insights, laugh and share and much more with the members here.

Thanks

Hi and welcome.
Its not strange to have lots of pets, well maybe to my mum, she thinks my 13 birds, 1 cat, 2 axalotals, 1 turtle and fish is way too many even when there is 6 people at home!!
If you have pics we would love to see them, even if there not birds!

Hi Sheena,

I will post photo's soon, just need to look around and find where they go. I don't have too many of my birds as they are new additions and getting to know us. But my cats and dogs have been around for awhile longer :)

Recently lost my beautiful Cockatiel Charlie as he was killed by one of my dogs and it's been a very stressful time, I still get chocked up when friends bring him up in conversation, he was my beautiful baby and we had bonded so much in such a short time.

I hope nobody thinks badly of me, but I am now having issues regarding one of my dogs, he is very much not friendly towards birds, my cats and dogs listen to NO, but Pippy does not and seems hell bent against birds. It's his nature as a dog, I am aware of this. But it's up to me to do what I can to protect my birds as well. I am thinking of re-homing him through a contact I have at a Pets Foster Home, it's not an easy decision but I feel it's the right thing to do for my family. :(

i have a dog that likes to jump up on the bird cages im am in the process of setting up a fenced off area for the outside birds and tia is only allowed inside when one of us is free to sit right next to the indoor bird cages so we are ready for any negative behaviour
mind you i dont think tia is trying to hurt the birds shes just trying to say hello
you said the birds are a new addition? & youve had pippy for longer could pippy possibly be jealous?
we have a very wide amount of animals too we have cats dogs ferrets rabbits birds & fish with careful management the can live together
we would love to see pics of all your animals
i am sorry about the loss of your charlie
maybe you could post something in rainbow bridge for him? its not just for irns & it might help you grieve for him
i know how hard it is when you lose a beloved pet due to the "natural behaviour" of one of you other pets
i still get choked when i find pics of my little gen jen
any way welcome ......enjoy.......& feel free to ask questions there is always someone willing to help here

Pippy is probably showing some jealousy but I think it's mostly his nature. I have had to save even the wild birds from him on occasion. I remember one time grabbing a young lorikeet out of his jaws. I am still upset about what occurred and realise I have to be very vigilant about Pippy getting indoors now, he is spending his time now outside in the enclosed patio area. It's not something that bothers him, he has lots of comforts there and is quite used to be outside.
