Taming

Finally just a little progress!!!! my guys are now in separated cages since they were fighting a lot, well they recived some bites of food from my fingers beteween the bars, but now, today, the recived some bites of food from fingers with my hand inside their cage!! both of them!!! did that!!!! i am so happy!!! this takes me 11 months!!!! but now i have some progress my next step well i am not sure wich is going to be my next step maybe try them to step up in my hand maybe i dont know

Hello from South Africa.

I'm not exactly sure how to use this website properly yet...but I'm seeking advice on my 3 week old blue IRN (Satchmo). Obviuosly I dont know if its a he or she yet...but I'm worried that "she" is is terrified of me. I have only taken ownership a week ago...but she cowers and seems to run for cover everytime I handle or feed her. She eats quite well...but makes the saddest "chicken" type noise in addition to not standing on her own feet and dragging herself with her beak. Any advice on making my bird confident and secure would be greatly appreciated...

Nice to hear tht you got blue IRN. IRN's take time to adjust to new surroundings and home. Initially they would be scared. I guess ur IRN is having food, some may not eat also. But dont worry, they would settle down. It takes time. Just try to talk to them from a distance. As its just 3 week old, it will take time to adjust to new environment. Keep food and water inside the cage, it would have on its own.

Everyday just try to talk to your bird. Say something sweet respond to her action. Dont try to grab the bird everytime. Once she is comfortable with u, Slowly and gradually decrease the distance between u and the cage while talkin. Get closer and closer. Try cuddling your bird once close.

Mine took 5 mths to get close, still he rarely has food frm our hand, bt there is positive development day by day. Now i cuddle him on his head n neck. He seems to enjoy tht.
