Hello all!
Let me thank you all for being here & lending your advice and expertise. My boyfriend & I are breeding birds to try and replace my income as I have had no luck in this economy. He is totally enamoured of IRN's and we have several pair. I would like to get some advice as we go along to make sure we are pairing to our best advantage and to learn about the genetics involved. I have been reading this forum for a couple of months now, but we have acquired a really stunning bird and I'm at a loss for what to do with him.
Thanks,
Cindy

Hello and welcome. I'm not too sure about the whole breeding solely to make money thing , but each to their own, good luck with that (you may find that it cost more than you make). First thing you need to do is research the proper mutation names, I noticed in your other thread you have a chocolate hen
I'm guessing it is a cinnamon of some sort. above there is a search function , play around with it a bit and try typing things like what color, mutation, what to pair with ect.

It is a labor of love, for sure. We have some small birds which offset the food bill (keets, zebras, lovies) and then we have some medium size birds which is where we hope to be able to show a profit (IRN's, Alexandrians, Hahn's, Blue Crown Conures, Mustache) but we just love them too. We are also going to the shows & selling cages, so having a few babies at the shows gets people to come over & look & then they look at the cages too. It's just fun & love feeding the babies.
