Is this a good cage?

Post by thefarmofcool »

Hey everyone, I am thinking of getting an Indian Ringneck sometime this spring and I have already started looking for a cage. I was wondering if anyone has this cage or if this is a good cage for an Irn. If you do have this cage could you post a picture of it? They I can get a look at size and space and everything. Thanks so much, here is the picture of it off of Petsmart.com .

Cage size

Post by Janet »

I was told that as long as the bird can more around comfortably without damaging their long tail the cage is a good size. But I have to say that I have a proper parrot cage that opens at the top with an additional perch as well as at the front. The cage is as high as me, about twice the width of the pictured cage and twice the depth. It also has a ledge around the bottom that slopes up so that there is some chance it can catch the fruit and seeds the birds like to through out of the cage. There are play things at the top, in the middle and at the bottom of the cage to encourage them to use all of the cage. I have a smaller cage (I call it their caravan) that I use to transport them to the vet, etc. You also need perches that are not a consistent size, such as a small tree branch. Perches that are a uniform size are not good for little birdie feet.

I think you should have enough room for the tail :D
I have the smaller of the 2 set up at work and the only reason i am not getting that one is because with my staff discount the bigger one works out to be only $20 more :D
