Breeding Season in western australia

Post by dolmps »

I have a pair of lutino IRN that i bought about 6 months ago at the age of 3 years. They have been feeding each other and showing all the breeding signs for the past month. I have seen the female go into the box once about 3 weeks ago and she has made herself a nest inside but she hasnt layed any eggs. My questions are?
When is the breeding season for australia?
how long does it last?
should they be on eggs now?
is this normal behaviour should it take this long to nest?

I am not sure about breeding season in WA, but in NSW it has already begun. Breeding season begins around Aug/Sept and finish around November-ish. It really depends on the individual birds and how they are cared for.
I have 2 pair that have 3 & 4 week old young, and 2 pair on eggs due to hatch any day.
This season was later compared to last years, (with my birds anyway :))
I have one hen showing interest in the nestbox but has no eggs as yet.

It is a good sign that they are feeding each other and the hen showing interest in the box and making a nest for herself. :)

Fingers crossed for you and good luck!

Let us know how things go. :)
