How long can eggs be left unattended?

Post by Lauren »

Lola left her nestbox when I got home around 3pm today, its now 4.15pm and she hasnt gone back yet. This has been the longest shes left them since she layed her first a few days ago. Usually only leaving them for a few minites at a time. How long can she leave her eggs? :?

EDIT: She just went back in.

Another quick question.. Jibby has been extreemly clingy to my partner and myself since she layed her first egg and has been spending most of the day in her box. We cant leave the room without him following us all around the house. If hes left alone he calls for us. Is he suffering a lack of attention from Lola?

Ringies wont sit tight until around the third egg, (depending on how many will be laid)

Last year my Green pair had 2 clutches of 5 eggs each clutch and didn't start sitting until the third egg.
This year she has laid 3 and is sitting tight.....looks like 3 is the magic number for this year. :)

The Lutino hen started sitting on number 3 egg as well. She has 4 and shouldn't be too long before they hatch! :D :D :D :D :D :D

So I wouldn't worry too much at this stage. :)

she may be coming out because it gets warm in the box and she wants the eggs at the right temp.

:D Oh thanx! I just get a little worried at the slightest changes. I watch them like a hawk!
Well, I'm hoping to check the box today (if she lets me) I think she may of had another, and already I see another lump in her abdomen! Gosh, those girls must be strong to go through it every other day.
