Tail wagging

Post by Linde »

Does anybody know what it means when Luna is wagging her tail?

If when looking at the bird its on a perch facing you, and the tail goes side to side a few brisk times, then thats a sign a joy generally.

My pet IRN often does it after a big sleepy preening session, or does it after a vigerous play.

The only other time they really do this is (rarely from my birds) when they do poops, technically shortly after.

So yeah, if its like that its a good thing :D

If the bird is "fanning" its tail... ie: spreading its tail feathers out and slowly moving it side to side, you have a very grumpy bird. :P

EDIT: my little sunnie bub in the aviary does the wag, and nearly shoot himself from the perch doing it... quite funny.

Smokey wags his tail after a bath, have to move or you get wet too  . The other times are the same as what Fah said, when waking, after a play and sometimes after a poo. Sometimes he will do it when he has accomplished something eg climbs somewhere he knows he shouldn't be  . It's like he is really proud of himself.

I think its all a part of the stretching , relaxing , getting comfortable thing. It probably settles all their tail feathers into place so they can relax.

Sounds like a nice happy bird there. :D
