HELP FELLOW OHIOANS!

Post by jen5239 »

Hey,
If anyone out there is from Ohio and a member of this board, I need your help! I am having one heck of a time with my Byndi and about ready to throw in the towel. Do you know of anywhere in Ohio that I could go to seek professional (not for me! for us!) help. I live in a small, stupid city and I know there isn't anyone or any where I might be able to go to for help. So if there's anyone on here that might know of a place, please suggest! Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! An aviary or clinic or something. I've already tried Brightwood Bird Clinic. Thanks for your help.

Thanks,
Jen

Jen:

Be careful with reaching out, lets make sure the person is at least a frequent member and DONT, out of desperation, give anyone any info on you. I have mothered you from day 1. You can tell me to back off. I just want to help you SO BAD. I want you to be able to at least hold Byndi on your finger and talk to him. I want you to feel the joy rather than so much frustration.

I have had days I have thrown my girls in their cages and walked away. We all have, if we are truthful and admit it. Dont beat yourself up.

If I had the shipping cost I would bring your baby here for a few weeks. Not that I am a better parront, I just know you are so upset and I want to AT LEAST get him to the point of sitting on your finger willingly.

I dont mean to be all up in your business but you are my board buddy and I dont want some surfing perv taking advantage of me girl.

Mikaela,
I've said it before and I'll say it again. You are the sweetest person! You really are! I greatly appreciate you and your advice. I just don't know what to do! I could just cry and cry! He just doesn't seem to want anything to do with me and it breaks my heart. He doesn't come out of his cage much and when he does if I make a movement toward it he boogies back in. Every once in a while I'm lucky and I beat him to the door and block him from getting in. I know this takes time. But I'm just really feeling defeated. And I have such a tiny, tiny house and I have a bunch of critters, and there just isn't anywhere to go where it can be just me and him. So... That's probably another problem. I'm just very frustrated! If I could find a professional to come in and "hand tame" my Byndi I would hire that person in a heart beat. Then I would just reap the benefits! I would be able to hold my baby and love him. Like I so wish I could. But... Like I said it's just a bad day and I'm taking his flighty rejection more to heart than usual. So any more suggestions please keep em coming. I would NEVER tell you to back off. I appreciate you and your help more than you will ever know. Thanks Mikaela! :D

Hugs,
Jen & Byndi

Hi Jen, I am a fairly new member and new with irns also. I seem to be one of the lucky ones when it comes to a new irn taking right to me. From what I have read and learned on this wonderful sight, is that all irn are different and I think that the way they are raised from the start, day one, makes alot of difference. The breeder that I bought my irn from hand raises around 6 or 7 different types of parrots and cockatoos. She seems to be a rare breed herself, seems that she loves the two hr feedings and everything else that goes with it. Anyway, I have never seen anyone more comfortable handling birds. She seems to love visitors and is very knowledgeable about almost anything that deals with birds. I am sure that she would have some helpful tips and if you are close enough maybe you could go see her. She lives in Zanesville, and if you are interested I could talk to her and see if calling her would be ok or going to see her.

Hey Darin,
That would be WONDERFUL! I'm not sure how far Zanesville is from where I live. But it would be great if you could get ahold of her and see if she'd have any ideas on what I could do! I would even be up to visit her with my bird if it's not hours away from me and she'd be up to it. Thanks bunches for offering!

Thanks,
Jen

Zanesville is about an hour east of Columbus on Interstate 70. I like to stop in and see her older birds and her new babies about once a week now that I know about her. I will talk to her about your troubles and see if she minds if I give you her number. We stopped by last Saturday and right now she has green cheeks, irn, sun and jenday conures, a goffin cockatoo, and two green winged macaws. They all just weaned except the cockatoo, he is ten. They are all so sweet and she handles them all like they were old and had been handled for years.

Man! Why didn't I know about her before! I could've gotten my ringneck from her! Does she advertise? I was emailing people from ads in Bird Talk magazine. I was going crazy trying to find one! Bummer! Well if you would please find out for me! I would really appreciate it. It would be a pretty long drive for me. But maybe worth it.

Thanks a bunch!

I will probably go by there in the next few days and I will talk to her for you. If you or anyone else is interested, she sells the irns for $175, sun and jenday conures $300, grey africans $850, green cheeks $175, and I cant remember for the quakers, cresteds, and lories.
