Worried
So I finally got to bring home my bird last night (yay). I brought him home in my car, the temperature was nice and no air blowing on him. I pulled him out of his carrier and he bit me pretty hard (his first time biting me, I think it was partially for balance and partiallybecause he was scared), started to bleed but I didnt really notice it until I had him set up in the cage. After he was all set up he just kinda sat in the same spot for about 30 mins, staring at everything. I was kind of expecting this, like a taking in the surroundings. My cage is very very big and I am starting to worry now. I gave him food and water and he has not touched any of it at all. Everytime I check in on him he is on the same perch just sitting there at the top of the cage. Its been about 16 hours since he was put in the cage and has yet to do anything (as far as I can see) other than sit on the perch and stare. I tried offering him some special treats like corn (the woman who raised hiim said he loved corn) and he would bite at them but then drop them. I dont want to bug him too much since I am sure this is all a lot to take in but a few times I have put my hand in the cage, gotten him to step up, and set him on the level where I have the food and water. I then shut the cage and leave him alone but he just goes back to his perch.
The water level looks like its exactly the same as it was when I put it in there and I know the food has not been touched. I am more worried about getting him to drink than anything though. Maybe if I set up the perch he seems to love right by the food it would encourage him to drink or eat something?
I tried one more time this morning to get him to eat but when I went to get him to step up he started moving away from me and across the ladder to the higher perch so I just let him be.

I agree with Bella.
It can take a few days for them to settle in enough for them to begin eating I have found. I guess it all depends on how well the bird takes it all in.
I had a similar problem with an Ecckie I bought last year. He didn't eat for 2 days, then when he did, he sure made up for lost time lol
I would keep offering his fav food corn. Maybe you could leave it near his perch. I am sure he soon wont be able to resist it!
Good luck, oh and will have to show us a pic of him once he settles in

I came home today and found seeds in his water bowl and all the peas and corn gone so I am pretty sure he ate. He is a bit more aggressive now and is sticking to not letting me anywhere near him, he reaches out to bite if my hand gets too near and shies away. Since he probably still needs to settle I am not going to insist on picking him up or anything for another couple days. Do you think thats a good idea?
I hope to get some pictures tonight. His coloring is very odd and it looks like overall turqoise but around his neck is turning grey and he has lots of yellow under his tail feathers and around his legs (I am assuming this is cinammon?) and the edges of his wing feathers are turning a green color

I think it is better if you leave him alone for a few days to settle in and get used to his new home. If you try and push the point and force him into lunging at you, then by you backing off is rewarding his behaviour by you leaving him alone (which in his scared state is what he most likely wants) and he will probably keep doing it. Also maybe in his mind he is scared and thinks that if you show fear by pulling away then it is confirmed to him to continue to be scared. Just a thought. I know in other animals, like dogs for example, if a dog is scared of storms and the owner rewards the dog by petting and making a fuss to try and make them feel better, then in the dogs mind it is ok to be scared and the cycle continues. So putting that theory into birds, it could be simialar thing
Then when you decide to bond with your bird take it slowly and when he reacts just stop what you are doing but don't move away. Just try sitting there until he relaxes then reward him with food. Eventually he will come around and realize that you are not the boogyman lol
It will probably take sometime for him to relaxe while you are near him or have your hand in the cage, maybe around 10-20 minutes at a time.
It is good news that he has started to eat.
Let us know how things go.

I dont retreat when he goes to bite me. I am not going to pick him up or anything, he just lunges at me when I go for his water and food dishes (near his perch and therefore near him). If he gets me I just keep going and grab the dish since a few bites dont bug me that much (doesnt hurt nearly as much as getting nailed in the knee by a horse that doesnt want to load). I dont beat a hasty retreat just pull the dish out, scrape off the top put in new food and then put it back and grab the water dish. I really try and make it look like I am not retreating but its a bit hard since the dishes do have to come out so I do have to pull my hand away at some point. I have not tried picking him up in the cage since the lady at the pet store said to just leave him alone a few days so for the most part I am trying too. When I pulled out his water dish last night he came out of the cage and started exploring my room a bit and then tried crawling up my leg (it was very cute). He wound up on the top of his cage so before I went to bed I just reached up and got him to step up and put him back in the cage. At that point he clung to the door and looked like he wanted back out. I took some pictures of him and hope to upload them tonight to show everyone.
It is kind of hard to catch his colors in the pictures, I managed to get a good picture of the yellow on the underside of his tail as well as some of the whitish spots on his belly. I managed to get a good one that shows how light the rest of his body is compared to his wings and the top of his head. But it was really hard to get a picture of the light grey coloring around his neck since most times I can barely tell its there. The lady who raised him said they have the cinammon gene so I am assuming thats what the yellow is. In his clutch there was a grey, one that looks like the color of his body all over (lightish turquoise) and another one that started out looking like him but lightened up a lot and ended up looking like the other.

Okay these are all the pictures I have so far. I know nothing about ring neck colors or genes or dilutes etc etc and google wont play nice and give me any form of a guide. So I will need everyone here to tell me about my own bird (lol). But my best guess is he is Turquoise with some cinammon and I dont know about his other traits.
This is just him wandering atop the cage, happy to be out and exploring. The flash washes out a lot of the color. But it does show his dark wings and the green around the top of his head. But it really washes out the grey around his neck
This is the yellow tail and feet and some whitish spots on his stomach
This one shows the grey (peaking out at the top is the back of his neck and it looks grey)
close up of his tail
This one just kinda shows everything. His dark wings, light belly, blueish green back and some of the grey around his neck
poor guy(or girl lol). Had quite the scare last night. My sister came home with a toy for him and just assumed it was okay to go in and stick it in his cage. She showed me the toy then I turned around and saw her heading into my room. I ran in there but was too late. She had left my door open and my dog was on the bed watching her put the toy in. While she was putting the toy in, he flew out, straight for the bed and the dog (brilliant of course). My dog has never dealt with birds before, but I was hopeful since I had pet rats etc and he never went after them just sat on my lap and growled when they came near like "She was mine first!". Well unfortunately as soon as the bird landed it was in his mouth. I grabbed his color and picked him up then put him out the door and shut it. The poor birds was flapping around like mad after that and ran into one of the walls and windows and fell. Took about 20 mins to calm it down enough that I could get it to step up and back into the cage. There are no injuries from where the dog got him but I am more worried about the fact that he hit the wall and the window and fell.
