Today we had been to the city and on the way home my partner thought as a nice surprise he would take my daughter and I to a Bird-Animal warehouse place since I love looking at birds and cages and toys and.. well yanno how it is..
We walked in and I see a sign that said birds.. of course I made straight for the door.. got into the room with the cages and stopped dead.. I counted at least 40 Galahs, Corellas and Cookatoos in a way to small flight, not enough seed and no water.. I thought that a bit rough but it did not prepare me for the rest of the place.. I found more birds, Corellas, Galahs and Cockatoos in a small area, with the *shop* cat swinging of the front of there flight and a skinny dog housed in a cage beside them... well...I dont think I will tell you what was happening.. the birds where panting - so distressed with not enough roosts, I was so close to tears and almost rabid.. it got worse the further we went.. where the pups/cats/ and dogs were, I have NEVER seen anything like it. When I walked out it -took all my will power, not to rip the person who was in charge's, scrotum over his head! I said nothing on the way out, since I figured at some stage I wanted to go back.. and if I had caused a confrontation that would not be possible.
I rang the RSPCA from the carpark out the front and reported the business to them, they said nothing could be done untill Tuesday due to the long weekend..so with them saying they had had dealings with this place before I left it in there hands.. This business claims to be PIAA trained and certified, not that I could see when I checked online, I then rung and left a message with the PIAA in Sydney to call me first thing Monday morning.
I was still shaking when I got home and thought Tuesday is a long time away.. so I rung the store and asked for the manager.. whose name I got but he refused to come to the phone.. so I told the person on the phone, that since they where already known to the RSPCA and I had just made a formal complaint, and that I had also jsut rung the PIAA, that it would be a VERY good idea if they got water containers into the cages and tiny glass houses the animals where in - before the RSPCA came.
Maybe they won't do anything.. I am just hoping that at least they all got a drink, in a warehouse that was that hot I was sweating.
As I dont know my legal standing I won't name the shop, but if anyone needs or wants to know, I am prepared to share privately, I also do not want to jeopardise such a great IRN forum.. by naming names without permission.
Yanno.. I wonderd why they had a big sign saying, no video devices, camera phones or cameras allowed..
Wendy who is still
