Clipped wings

Post by KellieH »

Hi guys,

Just curious, Fonz had both (for some reason)wings clipped when I picked him up from the breeders son, as you can see from the pic below they are quite short. We have had him for about 2 months now and I havent seen and change in the length of his wings. I know with my cockatiels I would have noticed a bit of lengthening by now..

How long would it take for a full flight feather to grow back?? I know you have to wait for the new feathers to grow but will this only happen when he pulls out the old clipped ones??

Its frustrating as I hate a flightless bird, although it is good whilst he is training..

thanks, Kel & Fonz

You should always clip both wings, clipping only one will throw him off balance.

The flight feathers takes a couple of molts to fully come back in.

Ok, i did not know that. But of course it makes sense about being thrown off balance.

Thank for your reply, we shall keep on waiting.I had a good look and I can see the beginings of new feathers. :)
