Confused on Color Mutation of this bird.

Post by Peachykeen »

When I bought this bird- I was told that it was a female. I housed it with a male and the male died. It did not appear that the female did anything and if she did then it starved for food or water, but I never saw her try and keep him from food.

My question is: Is this IRN a female and is it a true Cinnamon?

Top wings: Green tingle and yellow.
Under wings: Light brown and white.

Hope the picture helps some. These are pictures from when I first bought them and they where in a Quarantine Cage.

Any help with the sex would be most important- But the color mutation would be helpful too.

Thank you so much in advance!

I am glad to know she is a she... or at least have a confirmation that it is a strong possibility.

I read the thread. The images of the bird are missing- so I couldn't see how close yours is to mind.

I need to get another nest box. With 5 females confirmed- I don't want any fighting. They are doing VERY well in the colony with fighting issues. No one has picked a box yet. I put my most aggressive females in last. That seemed to cut down any disputes amongst the girls..lol BUT two males took a shine to my green female, which didn't seem to bother her but her green male cage mate was not pleased with the interest shown by the other male.

I had them paired off and they did nothing. They wouldn't even get into the box on the whole. My Turq female would go in the box and throw all the nesting materials out and then she had no interest in the box.

I just wanted to know what to possible expect since I am letting them pair their selves up- since me doing it didn't seem to produce ANYTHING but poop and mess..lol

They are in a 7.5 foot high by 6 foot wide cage. I think they are happy being together now- that is how they were when I bought them (in a fight aviary).

I have them on 14-16 hours of natural and artificial sun light. They eat pellets and fresh fruits and veggies. We are in NC- USA

Does anyone have any other suggestions as far as helping them "get in the mood"

I have bred Lovebirds in the past and really enjoyed it and I found them to be super easy to breed and handfeed. I have read so much with the ringnecks- but opinions vary as everyone knows- so I like to keep getting input. Cause what works for one might not work with the other.

So please feel free to advise and pass along any words of wisdom.

I did have one further QUESTION that I was curious about. Will IRN lay on a bare floor nestbox??? My Lovebirds really enjoyed the hunt for paper and they always went for the phone book and would tuck it in their feather and haul it around ( we had a bird room then too) it was very cute. But I have had the hardest time finding the building behavior details for IRN. I would love to let them do what is most natural to them- Twigs- vines- and the like. I just love them and want them to be happy!

Thanks for any help and sorry about being so LONNNNNGGGGGG winded..lol

Anyone else want to way in. I am not really in it for production. I wanted them to be able to fly so I got the huge cage. I wish I could afford to buy a climate controlled outdoor aviary so that they would have more room.

Like I had said what works for some breeders might not work for others. I moved them to this set-up last night and everyone by tonight has picked their nestbox and favorite perches and with little to NO squabbling. And my Turq female promptly threw everything out of her nestbox. She is a trip. Isn't her eggs going to just roll around if she ever lays??

Again I just want them to be happy- not necessarily birdie factory's. I have noticed that they have really been taking advantage of all the room and flying for FUN~ lol...

So if they aren't killing each other- there is no harm right??

I have 4 pair.

Still no fighting! I am so happy! I was a bit worried. I have a web cam on them and watch them most the day. I do web design so I am at my computer a lot. They are fun to watch to when they think no one is looking.

Everyone seems to be doing good. :D
