My house is pretty safe and I can close all doors. I want my IRN to have his wings back but am wanting to hear from people who have IRN's that have their wings complete.
Do your birds fly crazily around or are content to perch mostly and fly sometimes???? If he was like he is now but could fly itd be great.
What are your unclipped birds like?
Don't want to clip wings anymore

We had Jibbys wings clipped for the first 2 years I think. The last 4 and half he has been 'free'. In my own opinion I believe a bird should be able to fly freely. But only when you 'know' the bird and they are tame enough to 'come' to you. From my own point of view, clipped birds have more accidents. I have read that caged/pet birds don't really need flight as they don't have to go far or look for food like in the wild. But isnt it only natural for them to fly?
Jibby flys pretty well and darts around the house with precision. He will fly up the hall looking for me, stopping almost mid air to hover and check every room to see if I'm in there. Hes gotten pretty good at flying! He does spend most of his day, perching, walking on the floor and climbing though even though he can fly. Sometimes he would rather I pick him up and take him somewhere. Lazy bird? lol. He does get his morning exercise by flying around the living room a few times till hes puffed. This has become a morning routine.
The only thing that annoys me is when I go into the kitchen he automatically flys to me thinking I'm getting food!
You will always have to be mindful of open doors to the outside world and of course the cooking in the kitchen but I think anyone who owns a bird should be mindful of any dangers anyway. Its just a matter of habit. Close every door behind you and don't let visitors open doors! So many people come over and want to go on the balcony, so they go to open the balcony doors. Thats when I dive for the door and tell them to wait till I put the birds in the cages!
If you have to do something like open a door or cook, always put them in their cage before you do so.
Remember to always make sure they know your boss aswell. People say when a bird is able to fly they become less inclined to 'step up' and becomes difficult to handle them. This can be true if you let them. Keep up the training just as you would a clipped bird! They must learn to come to you. I think I'm lucky because I use Jibbys 'bell' to get him to do things. Its like a training tool. If he wont come to me I just have to ring his bell and he comes flying in from anywhere! Hes quite easy for me to handle and he knows when I mean business!
When Yoda has learned to come to me and when hes learned that I am boss, I will let Yoda fly freely.
Phew.. I think that was long. I hope this helps.

So to answer your question. Jibby spends about 80% of the time perching/ walking on floor/sitting on my shoulder hitching a ride and 20% flying too and from places.
Just as you would a clipped bird, find something they really want and use it to train them to 'come' to you. Do practice step ups too! They still need to step up.

Yep pretty similar to Lauren. We have Jordan flighted and Pickle not. The others are breeder pets in cages.
Jordan can be rather annoying at times, we cannot eat without him flying to us to grab stuff from us, usually though he fly's to us and hitches a ride around the place. Sometimes he refuses to go away, (we put him in the bird room when we don't want to be annoyed by him) but if he fly's off refusing to go into the room, we only have to carry the treat jar with us and he is under total control.
I love having him flighted. I can call him when I want and I love watching his agility as he manouvers through the house. We have a door way into the kitchen from the lounge, then a doorway to the hallway from there and then a doorway to outside at the end of the hallway, so it would be almost impossible for him to escape, even with the amount of traffic we have here.
The only thing we have to watch is when visitors come that are not fond of birds, we forget jordan is out and when he takes off to come visit the new person, they freak !! lol

Oh yes! Now Jibby thinks everytime I go down the hall, I'm having a shower so he flys to the bathroom waiting for me. Can't go anywhere in the house without him wanting to follow.
Yep, Jibby scared the crap out of my sisters boyfriend other week. He wasn't too fond of birds. My mums best friend is phobic of birds so we don't allow Jibby out if around her. Jibbys quite social around people he 'chooses' to be and wont hesitate to land on them.
Oh and watch out too. Jibbys got a habit of doing 'flybys' and whacking people in the face with a wing. hehe. It makes me laugh.
