Im just getting started with irn

Post by DarinA »

I have read up alot on irns, and have had cockatiels in the past. I have had my irn Jade for two weeks now. I have read that irns are very loud to the point of getting on your nerves. So far about the only time that Jade is vocal is when we are on the front porch and the wild birds are going to roost. Is this normal or is Jade just abnormally quiet.

Hey, welcome to the board. Irns can be so loud it literally deafens you for a moment but usually choose not to. If they are alarmed, they make a deafening 'car alarm' sound. Otherwise the are simply chirpy at certain times of the day.

They may sqwack a little if they want you to come see them but after a few times of being ignored, they figure that doesnt work. That is tolerable and would only be annoying if you were on the phone, for instance.

If it is that big of a deal, get a mouse. They are quiet. Living things make some degree of noise.

The are actually recommended as apartment birds because although they can be very loud, they choose not to be.

It is common for them to chirp, tweet and mumbled first thing in the morning, around noon and dusk but owners find this pleasant and I too find it soothing backgroud noise.

Good luck, post often and let us know when you get your baby. Save us to your favorites 8)

Excellent choice of name!! If your bird takes after me personally, it will be loud and sometimes obnoxious but affectionate too.

Congrats on getting your new Ringneck, most Ringnecks are pretty loud especially a dawn and dusk, just like all other birds.
Personally, i don't hear my Ringnecks much but that is probably because their squawk's are drowned out by my pair of Sun Conures

The loudest thing our birds do is the contact call, which is annoying if you're in the room. But other than that they aren't screamers or anything. And can usually be distracted by food, lol.

I've been called 'birdbrained' before, but somehow I don't think this is what they meant. say:hah-nay
