need help with my baby irn

Hi alll.......

i bough a baby ring neck today...the seller did not knew his exact age but from net comparison he looks like 3 weeks old...he is such a darling and i realy love him... i am attaching his pic..if any one can plz tell me his age by looking at his pic? so i can refer to chaarts n stuff for his feeding and progress

Welcome to the family

I hope if your new baby is only 3 weeks old you have all the things needed to hand raise this little darlin, especially experience.

Brooder to keep it warm, thermometers to test temp of formula, a good handrearing mix, you know the consistency of the mix, how often to feed, how to watch for probs digesting etc. etc.

You may also want to make a post in the Breeders section of the forum to get the attention of others that know alot about breeding and handraising. There is a sticky there on handraising techniques posted by our wonderful Melika that you can refer to also if you need to.

Please post pics asap, I do find it rather worrying that the breeder that sold you the baby doesn't know how old it is.

I do hope the breeder did not sell you a 3 week old and you have the necessary things needed to hand raise your little baby. A breeder should not have sold you an unweaned baby.

i was not expecting such a prompt response....i am attaching a pic of my baby please tell me the age based on ur experience.....

As far as the other advice are concerned, i live in a country pakistan where there are not much pet oriented stuff is available so i am keeping him in a box made comfy...but its summers here to the normal temperature is around 33 C around 92 to 95 F .So i hope the heating is not required here?

He is absolutely gorgeous and yes looks to be around 3-4 weeks old. Have you ever raised a baby bird before? Do you have handraising mix? I will find a post for you with instructions... back soon

i am in one more confusion...i am not sure wether it is a an indian ringneck or an alexandrain? (which is larger in size)

how can one tell the difference between teh two?

before I read your post while I was looking at the picture, I was about to post that this babies head is rather different to what I am use to seeing in an IRN baby, your baby seems to have a much longer flatter top of the head and a much larger beak, it does appear to me to be more like an Alexandrine. it also lacks alot of body and head pins but that could be that it is more to the 3 week age than 4. But then a picture can be deceiving.

Alexandrines are larger than IRN's.

3-week old Alexandrine. Crimson wing markings and head shape a giveaway. No need for brooder.

You can improvise handfeeding formula by mashing fruits and vegetables and adding warm water.

hi all i need some advise :

i just got a baby alex who is 4 weeks old...i also have a siamese cat for last 4 years she is a darling too.

i keep my alex safe from her in a cage and sep room, buti am afriad she might get him one day...

a...can cats harm full grown alex?

b...If i iintroduce alex to her in controlled manner like making her smell him etc will that make her friendly? ..cause i know my siamese loves to hunt she love sto catch wild birds in the garden.

c...wht is the solution?

Cats saliva can kill a bird in seconds. Some people here have dogs, cats and birds and they get along well. But you must keep an eye on them at all times!

I've only ever had a bunny, a turtle and birds so I can't help with 'introducing' them. But I would introduce them slowly in a controlled environment. I would not let the cat touch the baby.

I wouldn't believe that Alex's don't like to be touched. Every bird is different. Each has their own personality. Some don't like alot of touching, others do. With enough handling each day, you can have the sweetest cuddliest bird.
