Teaching to talk....

whats the best way to teach an IRN to talk?
i mean like without myself or my wife constantly repeating ourselves, plus we are out of the house a lot.
should we like record ourselves for him to listen to while we are out or what....
any ideas?

You can try a Wordy birdy It records your voice and then plays it over all day. But IRN's are really smart you really don't have to repeat over and over, Just talk to it like you would a person and they will carry on a whole coversation with you.

I personally don't like the recorded idea's except for a whistle or a song you may want them to learn. I think their talking should be in relation to actions and activities, not robotic.

Just talking alot with very clear definate words, and good excitement in your voice. Apparently they pick up words with T's and D's easier than anything else, because they are very deliberate and clear sounds. eg. and ie. "What are you Doing" .. "Good Boy"

Anyway, just my two cents.

We talk to Amazon just like he is a young child, very morning i get up come out to him adn say "Good Morning" then i say "shower time" and he will hop onto my arm and off for a shower. He isnt talking yet but im hoping he will start soon

we just started by saying hello, everytime I would walk in or get up and see him I would say either hello or hello indie. Now when he sees us he says hello to us.

Alot of people find saying the word with the appropriate action works well. Like Donna said, just talk to the bird as you would a person. Repeat only the words you want them to learn with the actions. But if your out alot, there are alot of products on the market for recording yourself. Or I sometimes just leave a song on repeat (usually the cuppycake song or you are my sunshine lol) or the tv.

My 2 don't talk very clearly but then not every bird will talk so I'm not fussed about them not talking.
Yodas started copying the dog downstairs after I repeat myself a million times a day. :roll:

Jibbys fave word is 'Chickieeee!' and now Yoda has copied it. (Chicky was the name of a tiel we had when Jibby was a baby 6 years ago!) So when one starts saying 'Chickiee Yeeeah!' The other repeats it. They've pretty much learnt things of anything but me! Either I'm doing something wrong or they are just not interested.

I'm trying to make mine learn easy words to associate with his treats like yum for his favorite, a slice of nectarine.

lol I don't even care whether my boy learns to talk or not! I talk to him all the time but he's quite. My mum said while I was at Uni today he was making sounds and she said it seems like he missed my company. Ive only had him for a week tomorrow and he is about 6 months old. I reckon he'll learn some things when and if he wants but I'm not fussed at all! Bonding with him means the most to me.

If he does so much as whistles or blabbers ill be darn happy!
