Hi, I'm Andi. I just got my first IRN, Nigel. He is 4 months old and I think starting to moult. He was a re-home and he is semi tame and intermittently bitey. I've read that it's a "blufffing" stage and hoping he outgrows this soon.

I have 3 other birds: Red Rumped Parakeet (Oliver), Black-Cheeked Lovebird (MJ) and my Parrotlet - Wasabi. I am just hoping to find out some more information on Ringnecks and maybe some pointers for getting through this stage with him. Here is a picture I took of him (relucatantly on his part) tonight.

What a stunning bird, beautiful colour. I adore the name Wasabi .

I like your name alot too, I am also Andrea shortened by my family and friends to Angie coz by bro's couldn't say Andrea when we were little ones, they would say Angia :roll:

Only ever had one guy call me Andy.

You have to just push past him when he lunges at you and make him do what you want, show him you are the boss in a firm but loving way. Never pull away or (if he bites you) show that it hurt, enforce the action first, then run away later, mop up the wound and scream your lungs out, ya can even kick something if that helps.. lol .. :roll:

Reward him when he does what you want without lunging and soon you will have a beautiful little darlin on your hands.

Any question you have along the way, just flood the boards with, we LOVE to help and cant wait to hear the progress you two make.

Nice color indeed. He looks like either a Cobalt or Violet. The normal Blues tend to be lighter, kinda like powder Blue.

Thank you. Like I said I think he's moulting because his color is a little off from when I got him. He's not as pretty. :)

I will try that. Thankfully his wings are clipped so he can't go far after he gets mad that he can't be on my shoulder. I went through the biting thing with my Parrotlet and my Lovebird but that was nothing compared to his beak. LOL

Good to know other people have been through this. No one around here knows much about Ringnecks. So thanks again.

Welcome to the flock. Wow! I love the color. Gosh, those Violets are pretty. What a gorgeous birdy.

Angies right, Don't ever show your bird that your hurt and don't pull away. Just ignore any biting (no matter how painful).

Look forward to seeing more of Nigel. :wink:

Thank you and thanks for the encouragement. There have definitely been days I've been ready to give him back. I haven't had birds for very long and he is nothing like my others. I have been trying to read as much as possible on them and have found this forum to be the most helpful. I really didn't know what to expect when he came home and now think I have a better idea of what I've gotten myself into. LOL
