strange little birdie

you know what happened yesterday night??
we were invited somewhere so my kids were looking after rose
but at dinner time she wouldnt take any food from my kidz and was shouting in a very high pitched sound
usually she only shouts when its exact nine o clock at night i dont know how she knows the time but she calls me like that at nine to give her a good night kiss and put her blanket on
and after putting her blanket on she wont make a sound
she will happily sleep . And then in the morning as well at eight or nine she will make this sort of calling tune to tell me that she is awake so i should take the balnket out

now this has been hapening from day one
so yesterday as well my son thought that she is making very high pitched noises because she wants to sleep
and that is the reason she didnt want food
so he put her blanket on
but she was still shouting from inside the blanket she was just not happy

when i came back at 11 oclock to my surprise she was still shouting and when she heard my voice she made that tune that she always make
so i opened her blanket and she quickly hopped on my hand
then i took food out and gave it to her and she was QUITE like a angel
then she ate and got some tlc from me
some kisses some scritches

and then after a while she made that sleeping shout as in telling me ok now that you have given me food nd love i feel sleepy so please put me to bed

and after that she was sleeping in her cage like a sleeping beauty with out a sound

all this is very very nice that she likes me so much that she doesnt eat without me BUT at the same time its also a bit worrying because what will happen when i go for a holiday for a weak or two leaving her behind with some one IS SHE NOT GOING TO EAT AND IS SHE GOING TO BE A SCREAMING NIGHTMARE FOR THEM

AND AS WE ALL KNOW THEY DO HAVE A CAPABILLITY OF SCREAMING VERY VERY LOUDLY :roll:

WHAT SHOULD I DO
YOU GUYS ???

well no one was replying so i realized that it might be because instead of starting a new thread i just posted a different topic in the same thread

Well if your IRN is really that bonded to you and doesn't like anyone else, and if it happen that you have to go on a holiday and need someone who have to wait at the house to take care of your keet, it has to be someone whom at least have successfully touched your keet without biting,
Try this;
Make your keet perch on your hand and pet its head slowly and talk to it slowly, then let that someone pet it too; slowly! if it try to bite that person prevent it by placing your hand in front of it to stop the bite, this way your keet will know that person is someone you trust and wont harm it, if it doesn't work keep trying! Its for your IRN own sake if you go on holiday! If it doesn't like anyone else but you, that will be a big problem...

Let your keet know that person at least for one week before you leave on holiday, and just knowing is not enough! That person also have to interact with it too, so that your keet will be used to that someone, (if you are really going on holiday)

probably everyone else is busy with something, thats why they didn't reply yet.

3 month old parakeet should be easy enough to get used to someone else if keep interacting with it, but ofcourse you will always be its best person.

Like how my lovy treated me. :wink:

Yep I agree. Start to have her sitting with you and the family. Get the kids to come and sit next to you, show her that you are all a flock and begin with getting the kids to put her to bed, but you be there watching, get them to do the whole bed time routine food and all.

My husband and I sit with jordan and we give each other kisses and then both give jordan kisses. Then the children will come over and ask Jordan for a kiss also and I tell him to kiss them.

Jordan is now socialised with the whole family. Although he prefers me because I spend the most time with him, being home all day. When daddy gets home, he starts with the daddy kisses and wants daddy, and when the kids get home, its play time .. :lol:

You just made a very bad mistake that so many people make and not realize it. You should have just let her hear your voice and let her be. Now she thinks whenever she does this you are going to come to her aid. You should of let her have her temper tantrum. Now it's going to be almost impossiable to change this behavior. You should not even be in the room when someone else is interacting with her.

I disagree with that, but thats just my opinion .

Donna is right though, giving her what she wanted wasn't right, but I think it will be easily corrected. It will take time and patience on your part, because ultimately you want your fid to respond to others even when you are there.

Kyria when he said he have to go on holiday it means the whole family member are going right? which mean the bird have to be used to someone who is not going on the holiday, like the uncle, or best friend, or anyone.

And when you first introduce that someone to the bird, you have to be with that someone, and try interacting with the bird together, so your bird will know this someone is your friend, and then later that someone have to start interacting by him/herself with the bird without you, so the bird will get used to the person.

I have experienced this introducing my Hobby falcon and eagle(I dont know whats the name) to my uncle when I have to go on holiday..

They would grasp other unfamiliar hand when approached, and start ripping the skin(I mean ripping), it was a long time ago and now they are in heaven :wink:

I agree with not giving the bird what it wants. But there is times when you must make sure they are not in distress.

I've worked out my Jibbys different screams now. There is the 'I WANT NOW' scream, the 'WHERE ARE YOU?' scream and the 'IM SCARED' scream which is the only scream i tend to him. I seem to understand him more now. This might take years to learn. But its my method. lol.

I made the mistake of coming to Jibbys aid as soon as he started screaming the 'where are you?' scream at lights out time. I paid the price. It became quite annoying and it happened... every night! I knew he wasn't in any distress so I just let him be and he eventually stopped his temper tantrums at bedtime. He still throws a tantrum when we are eating dinner though doing his 'I want I want' and pacing up and down the perch. But he doesn't get anything and its slowly working. It doesn't happen every night now.

It takes alot of time and patience to 're train' a bird. Ignore the screaming no matter how annoying it is.
