Hi! welcome to this board although I am sad to say that your bird does not look very happy. i think it is very sick. i have tried to answer your questions. other members of this board could you please look at the pics and add your observations?

1. it is young judging from the beak colour (personal observation)

2. unknown, you wont know until it is 18months old.

3. healthy, happy ringnecks talk at 6months or older, but every bird is different, and some may never talk.

4. The feathers on your bird are very bad (particuarly the tail). there are a few things that could cause this. Handraising in bad conditions could have lead to it, keeping it in a small cage where the tail gets damaged could also do it. There is also PBFD - a disease, which can cause it.

5. If he is biting his feathers, he could have a behavioural problem (not likely in a baby?) or a physical problem (more likely).

6. your bird does not look well. if you take it to a vet and make it healthy, it might respond to taming a bit better.

i would keep this bird away from your african grey. it has several sickness signs (closed eyes, fluffed feathers, and the general condition for starters!) and until you know what is wrong with it you shouldnt expose your grey to it.

I hope this helps you!

Does he pluck any of his feathers out? Or does he just bite his tail ones off?

The tail feathers may just be rubbing on the bars of the cage when he moves around, if that bothers him he may bite the feathers off to make his tail shorter. If his tail is rubbing on the bars, you may need a larger cage.

What is the first picture of? Is it a bald spot under his wing?

If so he may be feather picking. So many things can cause feather picking, here are a few:
stress from moving, shouting people, being poked all day by kids, etc.
smoke from cigarettes or cigars
cage too small
not enough sleep (if you watch tv late at night in the room your bird is in it will keep him awake)

Maybe you can fill us in with some more information so we can answer your questions better. :)

That baby DOES NOT look well at all. Please get him medical attention TODAY. I know you do not read/write english well so if you do not understand us, let us know.

Again, your baby looks very sick, not well, uhm... not good. Please get him/her help FAST. I have never seen a ringneck in this condition. Not making me too happy either. Can you care for it properly? If not please give away. Not attacking you, you obviously care or you wouldnt be here but please get the birdie to a Doctor... TODAY! I know this is breaking your heart. Stick to this board so we can help you and your baby bird!

Our birds look about the same age. This is more what she should look like:

Lets get that baby healty! First off, what is her day like and what do you feed her. They CAN NOT live on seed alone. Your baby should be very active and prance around like a cocky rooster. She sould be much like a two yr. old human child... into everything. Is she limp and docile? Please let us know how she is doing so we may help you.

PFBD please read NOW

Post by grahemej »

hi i am graheme from aussie
your bird has PFBD or beak and feather disease
now before anyone jumps on me i have 7 irns and have had for 4 years , i am about to breed my first clutch
the reason i say it is beak and feather is because, i have one that has it, It is VERY contaigious to PARROTTS, especially from birth to 2 years , it only seems to attack the parrotts and if your african grey is close it can affect him, SEPERATE THE BIRDS FROM ONE END OF THE HOUSE TO THE OTHER< NOW ,,,,, it travessl in the air and droppings are a major carrier, it seems to come into the nest and infects most if not all birds, YOU NEED A BLOOD TEST TO BE SURE..
The bird will behave and act as normall as it doesnt affect his nature but ut affects his feathers and then his immune system, the yello on the feathers is a sign and his tail is stringy or distrophic, thats another sign, his feathers will gradually all fall away at each molt and he may sanp out of it or loose all the disease and grow noirmally but this is VERY RARE, our bird we gave to another home with NO OTHER BIRDS, he is happy and healthy but no feathers, Their is NOTHING a vet can do to the best of my knowledge you can get a vaccine when they are young but no guarantees, I feel this info is true and correct but i am no vet this is all personell experience, HE NEEDS GOOD FRESH FOOD AND WATER < PUT SOME SPARK IN IT< HE WILL ALLWAYS BE HAPPY AS HE DOESNT KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING, regards graheme

Lets *try* not to offend, as I can see we have, me included. I know we didnt mean to but we have upset this member. It is obviously hard news for you to take ss29. It would be for any of us. However, we are here to help you and your feathered friend, not to bash you. In fact, you belong here as much IF NOT MORE than any of us because your baby is sick.

Maybe there is a language barrier? Please stick to the board for your babies sake. NOONE here is a mean spirited person, we are all good people. Bad ones go bye bye real fast. So please know we are only extending advice and kind words, no bad.

I hope you visit us again and allow us to help you and be a part of your baby birds progress.

I think, because some boards can be mean places to visit, you confused us with a board such as that. I promise you, you are more than welcome here and everything that was said was said for education purposes. You have to accept the information learned here if you want to help your bird.

Your bird is sick, I am sorry you dont want to see that but please look beyond yourself to accept this situation and become proactive. We can help you and want to.

PM me is you feel more comfortable with that. NOONE has attacked you, we know you love your baby and your babies condition is NOT your fault.

Let me know if I can help.

Just relax and realize that if you feel attacked here, you are taking the words out of context. We don't make fun of people or birds around here... well except for me. Homey dunt play dat. Everyone picks on me but thats Ok, I dont have poo on me *giggle* I wear a poop smock and people funny with me about that. Again, for the sake of that precious baby... save us to your favorites and let try to get that bird heathy because sweetheat... he or she is not. *big hug*
