Catching an IRN

Post by watever »

Hi all, about 2 months ago my Ringneck flew away. I had searched a couple of blocks but couldn't find it. Since it had been a hwile i just gave up and brought another. Anyway, recently i have spotted him/her on a couple of occasions.

Anyway my question is is it possible to catch this bird?

Do you have the cage he is familiar with and a toy he recognizes.
If so you can call him and put the cage in the vicinity you saw him in and he may return to the cage to search for food, put his favorite food there, if it's sunflower seeds put those there and then hopefully he will check it out when he feels safe.
I had a pair of zebra finches that returned to their cage when they saw it. They had only been out for two days though. But it is worth a try. Birds are active at dusk, watch the wild birds in the area and see when they pick up their activity in the afternoon, before they roost for the night. That would be when your irn would be actively looking for food too.

Anyone else with any experience catching a loose bird?

Put the new bird outside in the cage and see if it attracts the old one...
