IRN training guides

Post by Gemstone »

Hey all.

any idea where i might find a guide on training my IRN?
i mean with tricks, such as waving, picking up things and putting them in a container, identifying objects ect.

This *IS* your training guide.

Your lifeline.

Trust me, not much out there in regards to parrots and what is out there is pure common sense.

How many of us would have been in a very bad way without the help of this board?

I bought the videos but barely even began training. I'm sure it works, if you work for it. :) If only there was a video your bird could watch to train itself!

Edit: The videos use clicker training or even just a sound you make as a reward. Same principle.

I've been called 'birdbrained' before, but somehow I don't think this is what they meant. say:hah-nay

You might want to join a yahoogroup called birdclick where they discuss clicker training your bird with positive methods. Here's the link.

I've heard clicker training works great birds. I clicker trained my tortoise and iguana (mainly to come when they hear it). So, if a reptile can do it, a bird can definitly do it.

I have never given much thought to clicker training BUT there is one, only one thing I really wish I could control about Baby... his pooping.

Let me explain. Baby is always out of his cage, goes where I go, I love him near me, he loves to be near me. I would like to have him in bed with me when Im relaxing but Daddy say no-no poo bird in bed. (He is a massive clean freak, refer to my pics).

Has anyone tried clicker training for poo poo? If I watch him... I can tell before he does it. So, I can see how it may work.

Im into this. Fill us in.

I would, of course, take him VERY QUICKLY to relieve himself. Its not to buy time, its to have a clean down comforter and my baby near me.

from what i have been reading.
when you see him about to poop, give the command then a treat after he does.
he will soon associated that command with pooing.

But you may want to use attention instead of a treat. Treat just means more poo more often....
