"Terrible twos"

Post by faerywing »

I've been told and I'm doing some reading and it says that birds go through a terrible twos-type stage. About what age does this normally happen with IRNs? I know it's different for all species of birds...

We usually call the first stage the 'baby bluffing' they go through this one after weaning or a few months...then I think about a year later they go through another, the true bluffing...

I can only speak for Baby but others here will tell you about Byndi too.

Both brats, both two year olds that refuse to budge unless they really want to. Finally, now they want to.

I think Baby and Byndi are alot alike in nature. Love me and I'll love you back but we both have to earn it. The bird isnt going to love first... for daggone sure.

I think it will take years for these two to be REALLY good birds. Sure Baby is a great bird but his curiousity gets the best of him. And once he is pissed, no getting over it except for time... push forward, lose a finger.

I dont like to use the word mean, especially when talking about someone else's fid but Baby and Byndi were extremely wild acting. Not pet-like at all and wanted nothing to do with being a pet.

1.5 yrs later, little has changed and doubt it will in warp speed. Some of us just have more aggravating birds than others.

I would have to put Baby and Byndi and the top. No need for humans, no want for attention. Mean or not, that does change. Our love softens them.

Baby and Byndi both are lucky birds... many would have thumped their brains out. After enough vicous attacks (long time since that) you start having mean thoughts yourself.... **** HURTS man. But Jen and I didnt give up and neither of us regret it.
