Now she's destroying the couch!
Aaagh! This bird never stops! Having solved the problem of her chewing the timber rail she is now obsessed with getting in under the cushions of the couch and ripping it to shreds!! Now I can't rub vaseline all over the couch so what to do? Apart from throwing all the cushions on the floor and sitting on the base - which is not a very attractive solution. She only does it on weekends when there is someone sitting on the couch but once she starts there is no stopping her. I need some serious help before she completely destroys it!
My Baby chews our roommates' coffee table edges
Even if we're not looking for a minute, he'll hop off his play gym and start gnawing. It's amazing how much damage they can do in a couple seconds
I have a feeling we'll be having to give them some money for that crappy hand-me-down table. Sure it's a POS but, nevertheless, it's THEIR table that OUR bird had a taste for *sigh*

Datsun has a taste for blinds... there is that stop pick spray you could try, for pluckers. It is a bitter tasting spray like that stuff you put on nail biters nails... worth a try!
I am sorry Carrie but I had to laugh at the visual I got of lil Atticus head down butt up chewing away on the couch!! Too cute, but NAUGHTY

Funny

"right, how do you redirect a steam locamotive going full throttle straight ahead". Nila will actually growl at me when he's trying to do something and I try to stop him. Makes me laugh out loud everytime.
All I can say is GOOD LUCK, might as well go look for a new sofa and give him the cushion as a toy.

Baby eats his play condo. Its gnawed down to a nub and was once 5 ft tall.
Ya'll remember his condo? Gone. Made it from wood... new parronts lmao. So naive. -sigh-
Its PVC for these guys! But, we live and learn. I learned NOT to make stuff for my Baby out of wood. Frickin' termite man.

Sweet! We're getting a PVC play stand soon for our Baby as well. The Aviary just found someone who will make them again. I wish I had the time to make my own! IMGAINE THE POSSIBILITIES!!

Hmmm - I think I agree with you all - I can kiss the couch goodbye. After dragging her out 58 times in a row I get to the point where I just think stuff it - eat the couch! I hope she tires of it soon. At the moment I have blankets draped all over the bloody thing in a paltry attempt to stop the destruction, but with another weekend coming I can see that it's not going to stop her for long!
I swear all these books on parrot behavior tell you what to do but I wonder have any of the authors met a ring neck. My George has a corncob chew tow that fortunately he loves to destroy, but he also likes blinds and will get that look about him and I have to try and stop him. Ya that’s no fun he gets so determined he crawls all over me, squirms right out of my hands, flaps furiously, and well you name it. Once he has a hold of the blinds, getting his beak unhooked is a process all in itself. So George has a blind that I bought for him to chew up so I guess he won that battle like always. Maybe buy your bird a cushion to play with and see if that helps.

OK so you guys realize that we're all gladly sufferring the plundering of our homes by these little feathered bull dogs. Kinda makes me want to cry, it is so heartwarming that no one logged on and said lock that bird up or get rid of it.
Thanks guys. You're all great. Big warm hearts.
My blinds are a mess too Dani, not chewed on but food thrown on them.
I had a new top on with a very find row of beads around the neck, that row of fine beads is now falling off the new top. I had to get Nila out first thing when I got home and first thing he did was lunge for the row of beads and begin pulling them. I was still kissing on him when I realized he was not paying me any attention and I heard the beads begin to hit the floor. Oh well, I got it on sale. And I did get to wear it in public one time.

I have to be careful with George he will go for my glasses. He has gotten smart about it to he will act like hes going to give me a kiss and then snatch there goes my glasses in his beak. I have to chase him around looking for him and I cant see so you can imagine how that looks he will blend in with things and be right in front of me with my glasses and I have no clue.
I think its great that we all just let our birds be birds, and when they insist on doing things we don’t want them to do we just sit back and find a way to let them do it. I would never lock my fids up, its not there fault that they love to chew on stuff their instinct is just too strong.

chewing
Both my birds love to chew, unfortunately I found this out after they had eaten my blinds in the puter room.... I keep white shoelaces in the cage and they love to chew on them, but my birds are weird in that they won't play with ANY toy I put in for them. Lilly has gone through 2 baskets, she loves to chew on them( the man that raised them had a basket in the cage and one for them to sit-play with out of the cage, and we have kept this up. it also keeps you from having to clean poop up on your furniture.
JANET ROBBINS
We made Sunni a 5 ft tall perch out of some dowel and natural branches. She loves to peel strips off the branches, then try to hold the strip with one foot and chew on it. The only really mischevious thing she does is when we turn our back she will fly from the perch across the lounge to our budgie's cage. As soon as we start walking there to get her, she'll see us and fly back to the perch on her own then laugh.
We got her clipped today, so should be interesting to see her tactics now
.
Funny story: We recently built a grand tabletop playgym for the budgie, tried Sunni on it, turns out it wasn't as strong as we thought. The t stand on the playgym collapsed under her weight, giving her the mother of all surprises.
