hi, im 15 and had my birds for about 2 years in an avairy. both seasons they have laid eggs but none of them hatched, they were hard or broken. my birds are about 3 years of age i think. why does this happen? there was one egg left in there but she wasnt sat on it, she was always out and never went in to it, the egg still had liquid in it and wasnt hard, anyone tel me the reason for this too.
Also my birds have some feathers missing, the female has a patch on her face and the male has some around him. why is this?
thanks jamie

It's good to know that more young people are getting into birds. But I think you need to do more homework on breeding and hatching eggs. Your pair is 3 years old and they may be to young yet. Some do breed at that age but it's been my experience that they lay more fertile eggs when their about 4 to 5 years old. It takes about 23 days for the eggs to hatch. Are you leaving them in there long enough? You can candle them after about 7 days after laid. If you find a clear one at that time it is called infertile and if you see blood veins going through the egg it is fertile. Do not take the eggs out if they are not fertile. Let her set on them for a while. You said you take them so she will lay more. Your only compromising her health. She can get depleted of calcium due to laying to many to fast. Last thing your birds are just going through a molt and thats why they have bare spots on them. Good luck. and start reading more books on how to breed birds. Thanks Donna
