is a darker head a sign of adulthood?

Post by surferdon »

as some of you may know my Irn, dude, has been molting for the past three months, and I think it will last a little longer since he has not lost his tale feathers yet. I noticed that on top of his head his new feathers came in with a deeper brighter shade of blue. Could this be a sign of him being a male and or is dude growing his adult plumage.

I was just curious because I noticed that the male blue IRns have a really bold colored head? Sorry guys just anxious!!!!

Im just as confused and anxious and well, damn right irritated about this molt myself. It has been going on for a good month and he just now only has pin feathers on his head.

I WANT TO KNOW! I dont care, I just want to know.

I think the US being so hot this year may be a reason for this long, ratty molt.

"Birds a moulting, how revolting" some famous poet wrote that, can't remember his name. I keep looking at all those feathers and keep looking at Nila and think any day he'll be bald as a plucked chicken. While his feathers generally look ratty he's not bald anywhere.

How many feathers does a bird have by God, because he's lost a bunch.
