Hello from a new IRN Board member

Post by barbemac »

I just discovered this board today, although I've had my two IRN's for almost a year, a blue and a lutino. Unfortunately, they hate each other so can't be housed together. I know the lutino, Lucy, is a girl (over 2 years old, no ring), but I thought the blue, Indigo, was a boy--except now that "he" is nearly two years old and hasn't ringed out any more than just a gray half-ring around the bottom of "his" neck I wonder if maybe "he" is a "she" instead?? (which might explain why they hate each other)

I had a cream-head turquoise, too, but "she" (not sure) absolutely did NOT want to be a pet, so I sold her to a breeder in Maryland. She was allegedly hand-fed--that'll teach me to trust what somebody says when I buy a bird over the Internet!

Anyway, Indigo is in love with me, and Lucy likes to sit on my shoulder and chew on my collars while I fix dog food for my "herd" of Dachshunds (I breed and show miniature longhair Dachshunds). I spend some time with each of them every day, but it's also nice that they're not "velcro" birds (i.e., a cockatoo). No, they never go near the dogs at all and vice versa, I won't allow it.

Good move not letting the dogs near the birds. I made the stupid mistake of letting my brothers bird near our dog and she killed it. I mean, the bird did go at her first, but still . . .
