First time flying

Post by feelar »

Hi we let Bingo out an hour ago for her first flight - her previous owner told us that she hadnt been let out before -
Anyway she flew into the walls and fell to the ground (she is unharmed) i would like to know if this is what we should expect and will she get the hang of it if we keep letting her out - i dont want her to hurt herself
Thankyou

I think she'll get the hang of it pretty quickly. Just make sure you bird proof the place before you let her out.

Have you considered clipping until you get the bird tame?

Just watch for windows, doors, ceiling fans, ect. If she is flying into walls, clipping is really an action you need to implement. The bird needs to be protected and thats up to you. :D

One broken blood feather means sudden death, think about that. IMHO clipping is your only option if you ever want a tame, trained bird.

Once trained, you can then let her feathers grow back. They grown very fast. Dont let birdie kill itself.

Keep a close eye on her. Most birds will take a tumble into a wall and are unharmed. Do close windows and cover mirrors...they don't realize they aren't clear. An ounce of prevention is woth a pound of cure...
