Welcome aboard.
What color is the new baby, and name please.
You'll find lots of good advice here and lots of people with
lots of experience.
I think that the answer to that question has always been given the
same reply. Give her a couple of days to get used to her new surroundings.
Does she run to the other side of her cage when you go near it or does she seem interested in you?
There are several posts about what to feed. I think it depends on where you're located to what you may have available. Try the search option at the bottom and just enter feeding or food or pellets and you'll see what was written on it.
But for starters they can eat fresh fruit and veggies, whole grains, pasta.
No chocolate, no avocado and no caffiene. And they need a daily diet of some type of pellet that has balanced nurtition in it.
Hope it goes well for you.

Hi,
Her name is bingo and she is yellow with a red ring around her neck.
Thank-you for the advacardo and chocolate tip - we would have probably given her a bit of advacardo to try if you hadnt said.
We found out yesturday that she likes tomato and carrott - the carrott she took from my hand!
She does move away from me if i put my hand in the cage (i didnt try to touch her only put a toy/food in the cage for her).
She seems happy enough, but we are worried that she wont know how to fly properly as she has never been out of cage (sorry if that sound stupid but we have never had one before). We are desperate to let her out as we feel she should be able to have more space but we dont know how we are going to get her back in her cage if we do!!!!
The only time she cried yesturday was when we covered her cage - we thought she looked sleepy and thought we may be keeping her awake (we took the cover off straight away).
Shold we just leave the cage door open and let her come out when she wants to when we go to let her out or should we take her out????
Thank-you for any help
Fiona

Letting the bird out
Love the name Bingo. If she has a ring she's a he. Only males get a ring, you can look at the pics on the photo topic and I think they have to be around 18 months to 2 years before they get a ring. Before you let him out make sure no ceiling fans are on and toilet lids are shut, if you have blinds or curtains on windows close them so he doesn't fly into them. Do you know if his wings are clipped?. If they are he will only be able to flutter to the floor. If not he may not be strong enough to take off too well. I'm no expert but I would try hand feeding him lots of goodies you know he likes so he gets used to your hand being in the cage and then offer him something on your palm and see if he steps onto your hand to get it. May take a while though. And when you decide to let him out put him in the smallest area you're able to. Close bedoom doors, bathroom doors etc to limit where he can go. I think if he's used to his cage and he can fly he'll fly back to his cage when he's ready, it will be a security for him. If wings aren't clipped you may want to have that done before you let him out. He will then need you to get back to his cage forcing him to allow handling. Just a thought. Hope that helps and there are lots of good people on here that got their IRN as adults and who may have better advice for your situation. Mine is still a baby.
