Suggestions for agressive bird
Ok,I picked up a young(had just started eating on it's own) blue IRN a couple weeks ago.Had it sexed and it turned out to be a male.2 weeks(or was it 3.....) I picked up my suspected Female Albino.First day it was ok but tense. My Blue one(God I gotta come up with a name!) kinda watched the white one.Next day he kinda got a little defensive.Would kinda beak butt the white one if it got very close. It has been getting a little worst every day.Now it is getting to the point where he will grab the white ones foot.Doesn't bite down hard thank God but will hold her foot and not let go.Also, when ever she goes to play with the toys he come over and yanks it away like a spoiled brat.Same with food(Found out both LOVE green bell peppers....is there anything these little guys won't eat?).Heck,in the mornings usually they are side by side on the perch but when I get home from work(someone else is here all day spoiling the crap outta them!) the blue one seams to have pulled a doctor jeckle and Mr Hyde.
I have a sister and brother bird - Chuckles and Sunny who live in an aviary together. I had handraised these two and I find that they do play fight. I now have the rule that if theres blood, its serious, but they never have. They will chase each other all over the aviary, grabbing at each others tails and then getting up real close and 'beaking' each other. They also grab each others feet and steal toys and food off each other. Its kinda like real kids fighting. Its love/hate in that aviary!!
I have been told by a local breeder that if chicks are brought up housed together they are okay in a cage together--see the pic of the 7 in one cage, at least as juveniles--but--even as 3 month old babies, you can not add a new bird to the group, someone will be maimed or killed...
I hope that you took Mik's excellent advice and separated those birds!
