Proud new servant of a Blue and Albino IRN

Post by Freighttrain »

Purchased a pair of Ringnecks Yesterday.Purchased the blue one outright and put 50 bucks down on the albino.Hope to pick it up this weekend.Hand fed and raised locally(the shop breeds and raises 90% of their birds) a few months back.Still doesn't have a ring and just started to eat solid foods a week or two ago.Going to take the blue one by the Vet tomorrow to have a check up and all shots plus a DNA sexing as I want a Male and Female pair to breed in a couple years. So far the blue one is not nippy. Will do the squat with mouth open but only barely touches my fingers. Will sit on my shoulder,Eating like a pig(gotta keep my Grandmother away from my Birds!Bananas,Water mellon,Carrots,Kiwi,Mango,Cantalope),Quite with the occasional holler(speaking of that as I typed this went into 2 callings of 3 hollers each).Pretty voice on these birds.Quite beautiful Animals too.Gotta come up with a name for them both once I find out the Sex.The Shop Owner suggested Blue Berry and Coconut but not a big fan of names like those.Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi and welcome! We need more albinos around here  All I can say is ask plenty of questions and we'll try to answer them. This is probably the best website you can go to to get info on IRNs

Thanks.I have spent close to 6 months looking for a replacement buddy after my Canary Wing Died of old age(had him/her<never sexed> for 20 years) but just couldn't find anything that had a personality that I liked along with the Physical beauty I wanted all in one package.Found man birds that I liked the look of but none had the personality I like.Found birds where I like the normal personalities but didn't like the looks but weekend before last I drove past a new pet store just outside of town and saw ring necks on their sign.Beings as I also like snakes I figured it was a ringneck snake but to my suprise they had a hand full of pretty medium sized birds in an open top plexi box.3 Greens,an albino, and couple of yeller ones.Instantly fell in love with the Albino just not the sticker shock($300!).Well,while talking and messing around with the ringnecks and a really Gentle Macaw(Felt safe enough to put my finger in its mouth while it licked the salt from it) the owner said she had a blue one at home and said she would go get it if I wanted to see it.So,Away she went and there was the second one I wanted. After I left I hit the net and found out all about the IRN attitutes and personalities and that is what sealed the deal.I had to get one.....no two.....Came back the next weekend(Last saturday) and purchased a Cage,Small rope toy(the one with orange block and blue round thingy),Food,Bird Bath Spray stuff, and the blue IRN along with putting some money towards the Albino.Hope to pick it up this weekend or early next week.Took my blue one to the Vet today for its first check up and DNA Sexing(46 bucks for all) since I have no clue what sex either one is.I hope one is male and one is female.

Welcome and how's it going with the new baby or is it babies now? I have a new 14 week old blue I named Nila. I'm not sure yet if male or female, we're waiting on the dna test. My baby has taken to me pretty easily. Not very verbal at all. Only gives a hollar about once a day and today not at all. But when it does hollar it kind of shocks itself, like "what was that" and then it gets quiet again. I talk to him all the time and look forward to him talking back. Does your bird make much noise? I don't have any other birds in the house. But I have a feeder outside the window where his cage is, I've kept the blind closed so far. He will do soft chirps in the morning when the outside birds are at the feeder. Other than that just quiet even when he plays with his toys or with me. Maybe we can swap baby stories as they grow. It may be helpful. I started mine on fresh fruit and veggies right away and the vet said it was good, I was afraid it might be too early to eat too many things but vet said go for it.
Welcome again.

been a while

Well,Ain't been over here in a while. All is well. They are happily shredding anything that gets to close to the cage.VERY talkative(Bird language not human yet).Nearly all day they are making all kinds of funk noises and screaming and churping and all kinda other bird noise.Did find out my Albino(Coconut) is not an albino. She is a Cream Albino.I was told the yellow tint was just stains from hand feeding but upon closer look I can see the faint yellow of some of the top feathers with pure white under.I have to get a camera with video cause they have a little fight going every so often you guys will enjoy.I have a small yellow cup from a one of those powder drink mix things.I use it to scoop food and they get rabbid on that thing when it comes into the cage.FUNNY!One will get it then the other will get over and they will get a tug of war going.I gotta sit back and wait till they drop it before I can get it out. They are still a hint of nippy but once I get them on my hand they pretty much just sit there and behave. The blue one(Blueberry) does like to take a nip then look at me like "WHAT!"They still do get in a tussle every so often but nothing major.Just the female showing the male who is boss.No more going for feet like the first 2 weeks or so when they were introduced.

Congrats on your new babies. I know they will be lots of fun. Maybe if we can get you infected with a good case of MBS quickly enough we can get you to drive to Alabama and rescue that IRN over there  Can't wait to see your new fids!
