Leaving cage in view of garden birds

Post by Qriaz »

Hi all

My cage is placed in my annex which leads into the garden. During the day my ringnecks have the view of the garden through the cage, however as I always feed my garden birds, I have 5,6 species of birds that come into my garden like magpies, jackdaws, woodpigeons. Is it good or bad for my ringneck to see other birds flying wild whilst they are caged up? Will it scare them or will they just be really annoyed?

Many thanks in advance for your comments

You have to watch your birds and see. If they feel they are trapped and at the mercy of all comers then they may be rather uncomfortable, especially if the garden birds attract any kind of predator.

Sanjays earlier cages were in the window bay, and he could watch and verbally interact with wild birds, but since having the big corner cage in the alcove he has interacted with his human companions more, I would say, if you want your birds to interact, talk etc more with You, then your birds shouldn't see too much of their wild cousins.
