HELP - Birdie changing colour! ! !

Post by SpEEdie »

Hi guys,

I'm concerned, my 6 month old BLUE IRN is going through his 1st moult, thing is, the new feathrs that have sprouted are blue with the tips being green ? ? ?

Why / How is that possible? He has been completely blue from when I got him in December last year , not a trace of green, but now he looks all speckled with green ? ? ?

He is my first bird, so I would appreciate any advice u could offer.

He is definately a male ( DNA sexed), and according to the breeder his dad was a Blue IRN and his mom was a Grey IRN . . . I'm not sure how the genetics work, so if u could please shed some light on this colour change for me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Also he doesn't seem to wanna come out of the bluffing stage . . . been almost 2 months and despite constant attention he still lunges at our fingers when he is gets a chance.

He has started vocalising and can do the wolf whistle and a clicking sound.

Thank you for a great forum , with a wealth of info.

Greetings from South Africa! (",)

There is a slight chance that what you bought was actually a turquoise bird. A friend of mine bought a Turquoise hen a few years ago and she had only ONE green feather on her head. He almost sold her as a plain blue. But now she is alot more green. But it does take these birds a long while to completely colour up.

Similar thing with my creamino all the old pictures I have of her make it look like she is a white bird but actually you could see very faint yellow, now there is no mistake she's got yellow all over.
