Talking ability comes at diffrent times dpending on the bird, some at 5mo. some not til they are a year old. and even some not at all. All depends on the bird. And as far as male or female, you could wait til the bird hits sexual maturity (1 1/2-2yrs old) and then you can tell by looking at him/her if it is a male/female.Or you could go and have her sexed. Hope i helped.

Hello

Welcome!

Both males and females talk. Talking usually begins around 7 months, some as late at 1 - 2 years. Usually you can hear your baby ringneck practice before it utters its first word.

I tried to teach my ringneck “hello” but he chose to say “good parrot.” So just keep your ears open.

Hope this helps

Hi! My IRN is around 7-8 months now and true enough it has started to talk in the past 3 weeks. Initially, you can hear him trying to utter some words. So, I started teaching him to say 'Hello' and he did eventually! I was so excited. Yesterday night, I think he is starting to say 'Good boy'.

I have a breeder IRN that I bought two years ago as a companion for my cock IRN. She quickly learned to say Leah which is her name and she learned it from my other bird Tiki. Tiki flew off 7 weeks ago and I'm still looking for him. I think Leah is lonely and trying to have a better relationship with me as she's always been a biter and not wanted physical contact with me. Now that Tiki's gone, she comes to my bedroom looking for me and wants me around. I was so surprised when I got up this morning and walked out by her cage and she said "Hello" It made my day. Last night I heard her practicing "pretty bird" I think she got it from my friend who says that to her sometimes. I do beleive they're more willing to talk if they are not around another bird constantly. I have an IRN baby and a baby plumhead that have been in quarantine for 3 weeks now in another room. She can hear them and has seen them. The plumhead answers her when she yells out and I can hear her practicing the plumheads calls. Too cute!!!
