Pity you cannot jam the switch to off, or take the bulb out, You might move your bedroom to the LY and vice versa l had to do that when l first moved here because Winston the downstairs tennant kept his gas fire on continuously and upstairs l was roasted. Whack the light fitting with a broom it might give up, but you could explain to the land lord that if the light the atautomatically turned itself off he would save money.

Re: Billie2
Firstly, I cannot switch rooms, the bedroom is way too small, and there is no telephone/Virgin jack. These pneumatic switches are ancient, and could be full of dirt and dust, I may report them to the HA. I've tried removing bulbs, but within a day or two a repairman turns up and replaces them. I posted my xmas/yule parcels, cards and calendars today, it cost a small fortune, but I don't begrudge, I don't think Jack and Isabel would appreciate gift vouchers or money. Even I wouldn't at my age. Sanjay was chortling along to xmas music today, but it wasn't ding dong bell.
Re: Billie2
Billie has a bucket l filled with bits and pieces and some Sun flower seeds and she was having a job finding them so she told me but when l put my hand it to take the bucket out she geve me a nip, I yelled "You naughty bird!" Several times and showed her the blood she ran along the prch jumped onto the cage and held her head up for a kiss only inches away from my lips. Sweet!
Got to go to bed early tonight last night it was hell it started at three am and hardly stopped until 5.30 good job the HA officer is going to speak to Emma on monday. Billie lets me know when it is time for my breakfast which l eat in the kitchen and she also lets me know when it is time for lunch which we eat together. Today it was chicken and mushroom soup and crisp bread. She likes it when l save some small chciken bits, she even said "Ta!"

Re: Billie2
Aww, bless 'er!. Don't forget to log that noise with the housing officer on Monday, preferably before she speaks to Emma. All the parcels etc turned up today, ordinary first class, good old Royal Mail, just shows they can do it if they try!. Sanjay has taken to clambering down to his floor, but won't step on it, he's looking for any tidbits he may have dropped, so he gives it the "eye eye" and clambers back up again.
Re: Billie2
Have you taken the grid out? Billie spends a lot of time on the floor of her cage but was always taught not to eat food off the floor by her mum, not that she listened. We both had a good nights sleep last night just in case l went to bed at 7 and slept right through until 6 am!
I have decided to let this thread run and run, alright with you?

Re: Billie2
Fine by me, peter, I enjoy reading your posts. I met a lady in Wilko's today, one of my regulars from the charity shop, and she was telling me she has two budgies, the hen won't stop laying. She has tried all sorts, even marbles, to no avail, so now she just leaves her to it, they are not fertile, she keeps the male separate. I leave the two grids in, they filter the tut when I change the newspaper.
Re: Billie2
The grids get messy though, with Biliie she poops mostly from the top of her door, but the first one in the morning from as high up as she can get unless it is urgent and then anywhere all down the side of the cage, l give her a round of applause where ever she poops. I give a cheshnut to chew on while l get on with the cleaning. I have found that if l take the brown husk off first and then 20 seconds in the M/w the inner husk just come away easily. Her tray is plastic and gets a wash every day. She sits on the top rung of her cage while l do the cleaniong.
When l sat down yesterday to do my stuff on the computer you had not yet come on line so l resolved to come back after l had finished and then forgot. Old age.
I have the annual gas check on the 17th; last year l kept the gas fire on pilot for Bilie and the gas engineeer complained that the first was too hot too handle, so this year l thought l would leave it off all night Billie has a Cozy Hut she can climb into if she gets really cold and l thought l would turn on the halogen heater just to take the chill off the room.
Emma downstairs is so quiet that l over slept this morning and it was 8.30 before l uncovered Billie she was still on her sleeping perch but had both legs double crossed!

Re: Billie2
That's a good idea. I cover the grids with newspaper, it do do doesn't clean off metal easily when it is dry. I must be due my annual gas check, my daughters HA fit new boilers regularly, mine is extremely ancient. Yesterday was traumatic, I bought a new tray to carry Sanjays food bowls etc in and out, the old one was plain pink, the new one is paler pink with roses, well, talk about wuss!, he gave it the "eye eye!" And with a loud sqwawk flew up to the chandelier, I ignored him and carried on regardless. Came back with fresh food etc, he went indoors in a hurry, still eyeing the new tray suspiciously, today, completely forgetting himself, he did what he always has, flown straight over and landed on the tray as I'm carrying it through, to see what's for his dins, he landed on the tray, then realising the enormity of what he'd done, shot off like a rocket!. So he will be used to it tomorrow, hopefully.
Re: Billie2
In the bathroom l have a plastic covered wire clothes horse which Billie stands on for a shower, she likes climbing down to bath floor level sometime even wades through the water but as the wires are a bit thin l bought two bamboo laders to help her have a grip, and she did not like them, l told her l am not spending £8 each for you to turn your nose up they stay but she climbed down on the opposite side. Some time ago l bought a percher from Northern Parrots and she took a dislike to it straight away so its sits on the table.

No problems today, he adjusts to new things quite quickly, it never ceases to amaze me how a bird Notices change!. Our Samoyeds did, they would actually look up at a new lampshade, the German Shepherds and Boxer never did. I am reminded of the time my mother changed furniture around in the bedroom, and dad didn't notice until two Weeks later, he tripped over something in daylight!.

Re: Billie2
2b or not 2b, l have just sent you an email back. I had my hand in Billie's cage trying to get a clip undone to take out a redundant toy and Billie was sitting on her perch tut-tutter
l put in half of the bamboo ladder l bought. If and when she starts laying again l shall try her out with the nesting box upwards she has to climb down into it, l cannot think how she would get out unaided so the bamboo ladder might come in handy if she accepts it.
It has rained all day and l could not go for my walk, Billie thought it was later than you think and wanted to go to bed early, if l try to keep her up she might think it was spring and start laying again.
We share our lunch and l was out in the kitchen pottering about and there was this dreadfuykl screeching, L rushed aback into the LR and she was sitting in front of the mirror
she thought l was eating her share!
I like to give her a cheshnut after she poops and yesterday she sat on my arm chair and crumbled it all over the floor so this morning l gave her an uncooked cheshnut but she dropped it so l picked it up and gave it to her back, she walked to the edge of her cage and pointedly dropped again. So uncooked cheshnuts are off the menu.

Re: Billie2
They are sweeter and softer cooked, I boiled a fresh batch today, he has several on his fruit skewer, I never peel them either. Couldn't get Sanjay to go into his cage last evening, so I showed him a towel, and he quickly sidled indoors!, neither of us wanted that!. It was pure nasty outside today, bitter wind and cold cold rain, sunshine forecast for tomorrow, yay!
Re: Billie2
Parrots is out an interesting letter from a lady whose IRN's favourite word is "Wot!" somebody called Bette, probably Davis who refuted the idea that IRN's do not make good pets, but l have to agree with who ever said that because Billie walks on the wild side. There is an interesting article about weekly weighing which reminds me l must get down to weighing Billie, the article said our birds put on weight in the winter. So maybe l wont. There is a ghastly article on Aspergillosis but better to be armed than not. Another letter about the difficulty of taming Alexandrines, l will second that!
Billie did not want a shower l kept asking her and offering a lift but no it was not until five minutes before lunch she changed her mind and totally ignorred the new ladder and got very wet by going down the clothes horse she enjoyed the spray gun and l had a job coaxing her out of the bath room but eventually we sat down to lunch together.

Re: Billie2
Does Aspergillosis affect IRN's? I thought it was mainly the big.guys. Yes, I was named after B Davis, but my parents preferred the correct pronounciation, as did Bette Midlers, apparently. I found "Parrot Essentials" to be cheaper than Northern Parrots, so Ive ordered their Hibiscus flowers (from santa). I wont get my issue of Parrot mag until the 21st, Someone once told me Alex's were much "nicer and tamer" than IRN's, but from Billie, I would say thete isnt that much difference.
Re: Billie2
We had a very bad night last night what with the drunks shouting all night and their karaoke/disco underneath my bedroom, it was a good job l went to bed early and it looks as if l shall have to go to bed early tonight as the clans have begun to gather, l cannot see much the HA can do before the new year, so it looks as if l shall have to grin and bear it. Billie is suffering too she wanted to go to bed at 2 pm!
She made me laugh this evening she was under the cover while l watched the Tv with head phones but after about an hour she sqeaked and so l I uncovered her and she ccame out and sat on top of the cage, but she was not happy so l offered my hand as a lift down, but she refused my offer but when l showed how it would work by lowering my hand and touching a perch inside her cage that she agreed to step up and in she went.

Re: Billie2
They are really intelligent, it never ceases to amaze me, today I gave the palace it's monthly thorough clean, himself got impatient and went inside, I had left his plastic wipe clean perches, so, there he was hanging upside down by his toe nails just like a chandelier, in the middle of his ceiling, I asked him to come out and usually he obliges, but not today, so I just worked around him, hoping he wouldn't splat on me!. You need ear plugs and nytol, they work a treat, I used them when the drug dealer lived in the next flat and people were coming and going 24/7.
Re: Billie2
People are so inconsiderate, last night they started their disco at 2 am so l turned on my Hallelujah muisc and after awhile discovered they had turned theirs off, so l turned mine off but just as l was settling down to sleep off they went again so l turned mine on, this sort of cat and mouse went on until 3 am and when they gave up, and it was quiet. The trouble is Emma sleeps all day and is awake at night. Still l have had worse neighbours. And l can get my own back with my compact theatre organ, she has already complained to me it is too loud!
When l came back form church l could see Billie sitting on the door of her cage but she was more interested in the Tv! Again she wanted to be covered at 1.30pm which leaves me in a cleft stick, if l say no she will think it is spring and start laying however l told her that l was not going to sit in the dark wearing head phones until dinner time. So l covered her and watched Tv with headphones with the light on. No complaints.
When l clean her cage she sits well away on the top rung, l tried to tease her with the brush but she got me back by nipping my arm, but we have a little ritual before she poops she calls me and after l give her a round of applause, she nods her thank you, then l go and get a cooked cheshnut we have half each.
Remind me to tell you in that other place the story of being caught in cleft stick.

Re: Billie2
That sounds extremely painful!, thank you for a LERT ing me to the dangers of cleft sticks. Sanjay finally caught up on tickles and kisses today, we were so absorbed in the cleaning yesterday we both clean forgot, besides, by the time I put fresh food and water in, he was ravenously hungry.
Re: Billie2
Billie pooped a mountain all down the side of her cage but she got a round of applause, and cheshnut but she put it down to eat later but l found it and I asked her if l could have it she said l could have half so we shared it. When l took the tray out to clean it she got very upset becasue there was some millett lying there however she cheered up when l put it back in the cage.
I had a visit from two housing officers and Billie was very intrigued with them she would not fly to them but sat on the arm of my chair as close as she dared to go. Later two friends arrived but Billie was used to them and she stayed in her cage. I think she was caught in a cleft stick!

Re: Billie2
Sanjays hibiscus flowers arrived yesterday, and a lovely hand written thank you note for my order, it was fun watching him tentatively taste one, then his eyes pinned, head feathers rose up, and he scoffed it making appreciative noises, I tried telling him it is rude to talk with his mouth full.
Re: Billie2
Good for Sanjay!
Billie objected to my watching Tv when she was covered, so after the third sqwark l uncovered her and rolled the top blanket away. She came out and was jolly cross when l tried to roll the top blanket some more l got a nip for my pains, eventually she consented to go in and l covered her. Having made her protest she tolerated theTv but l had to wear headphones and turn the lights off!

I don't wear headphones, I turn the sound down and switch subtitles on, but I turn lights off. I popped into town today, and an Asian stall had guavas for sale so I've stocked him up with several. They have a lovely aroma, my kitchen smells very "green" when there are guava in the fruit bowl.
Re: Billie2
In Parrots mag there is an article about parrots mistrust of anything new and Billie is no exception l buy things and immediately she takes a dislike to them and they go into a box which l will mark "wasted money!" Once the winter soltice is over l shall be insiting that she goes to bed later in the day, today it was 12.30 and l told her that l was not going to sit in the dark twidling my thumbs, and she would have to put up with the flickering light of the Tv, besides l find head phones better then sub tiltles which are so slow and sometimes miss important speech.
Did she listen? Not on your Nelie, (I think l l will explain that in the other place.) We had the gas man come to check the appliances and Billie stood on tiptoe to welcome him, he said he once owned an IRN but had to give it up because he was away from home all day so he advertised on Gumtree, the bird went to a good home but is was obvious he missed his ringneck.
So here l am in the dark twiddling my thumbs watching Tv with the lights off and headphones when Billie started to protest so l uncovered her and had an awful job getting her back in her cage she just stood on the top and sqwarked eventuially she agreed to go back in but let of a despairing wail five minutes later.

Re: Billie2
I know I shouldn't laugh at Billies antics, but I can't help it. Sanjay Always gives new things the "aye aye!" But not for long, so no wasted money, with the exception of that giant bird bath. One of my daughters neighbours wants to bring her here on Monday for the Solstice, he had an IRN years ago, a lutino, I rather suspect he isn't being altogether altruistic, as he is Very keen to meet Sanjay, I have warned him, the feeling will definitely Not mutual, he loathes strange visitors!
Re: Billie2
Billie is just the opposite, l went down to check the post and when al came back Billie was on tip toe chirping away looking for the visitor. The media are saying today is going to be Binge Friday. Billie wanted to go to bed early sensible girl but she moaned like the dickens fromunder the ciovers, as l watched Tv in the end l had to come in here (bedroom) and play some computer games before dinner.
I noticed that my downstairs neighbour has moved the Disco amplifier to the other side of the flat, away from my bedroom which is good for me and bad for Billie. She is very polite if she does not want a morsel she will take it and then drop it!

Re: Billie2
Sanjay does the same, but it is wasteful. So your neighbour is going to annoy whoever lives behind the opposite wall?, I don't know why they can't hire a venue for their noisy shennanigans.
Re: Billie2
Alchoholics do not have money to hire halls cheaper to have your friends around and let the neighbours hang. However l was thinking last friday l would have a bashing but it was very quiet, last night they were noisy with their talking and laughter at 3 am but thank goodness no disco/karaoke sounds! If this continues until the new year then l can take it up with the housing officers but it is not too bad.
Billie like a chestnut but after a few bites she drops it, so l pick it up and eat it. She is astonished so am l! Have you had Parrots yet? She does not drinkmuch water, get most of her liquid from tangerine segments. She aslo like the pomegranite quarter l hang up for her. Are you going away for Christmas?

Re: Billie2
Heavens no!, I won't trust anyone to look after Sanjay!, but I'm having dinner with a few Pagan friends tomorrow, and we will raise a glass of mead. Sanjay and I have been sharing a pomello, it's like a very sweet grapefruit, lasts a few days too. Now I must light my Yule candle.
Re: Billie2
How stupid of me! No you cannot let Sanjay down, our birds limit our choices, l aggreed to play for the watchnight service New Year's eve lwill probably leave about 10 pm by thenBillie shoud be fast asleep, last year when l go back she came out for a cuddly so maybe she will this year.
I upset the tin of seeds allover the carpet and Billie flew down and helped me, not that she did much just picked up one or two seeds and ate them, then as l was leaving her for the night l picked up my phone put it into my pullover pocket but it slipped out and fell into the WC pan. I used my hair drier to try and dry it out but no it does not work so l left if on the gas fire in the LR which l keep on pilot for Billie maybe it will work. Then l took some cod out of the oven to let it stand in its tray, and because it was in the way l tried to move the tray without gloves OUCH! That was the third accident today/

Re: Billie2
Things Always happen in threes don't they?. Dogs make better Hoovers than birds!. I brought a little piece of goose back with me for himself, and he really enjoyed it. I picked up Parrot mag before catching the bus home, weigh Sanjay?, I'd have to catch him first and that with gauntlets!, he'd sulk for a month!. Walking to the house a neighbour popped out and invited me to xmas lunch with him and his missus, I politely made my excuses tbh I detest turkey, xmas pud and mince pies, getting very picky in my dotage!
Re: Billie2
I love Christmas Log, mince pies, and Christmas cake, but alas l must keep to my diet although it is a bit dented with all Christmas Spirit! But talking of Christmas cake reminds me that my parents lived in a big hopuse with a big garden and at the bottom of the garden were big oak tree where in lived squirrells. One year Mother found half a Christmas cake in a tin under the sink and she decided it was not fit for human consumption so she broke it up and put it out for the birds.
We saw this Squirrell come down to investigate and he ate and ate of the christmas cake. After about and hour he sat back and rubbed his tummy before eating some more. We watched him waddle down the garden!
Billie knows something is up, she has been handing out kisses all day,

Re: Billie2
She wants to get into Santa's good books!. Sanjay is a take me as I am sort of person, at lesst he is honest!. Jack and Isabel loved their Solstice gifts, and looking forward to seeing what Santa brings, they had a Happy meal for lunch yesterday, and a takeaway for tea, so at least their mummy was saved from slaving over stove and sink. I saw an albino squirrel once.
Re: Billie2
Must be pretty rare to see an albino anything, l wonder how it managed? Billie now understands "Shower?" She loves standing on the clothes horse getting wet, l got on with my chores and put the rubbish out, one of my neighbours came up for a chat and and when l got back in l saw Billie was not in her cage, l was perplexed until l remembered she was still in the bath room so l rushed there only to find she was loving the shower and quite uncncerned about my absence.
LOL she saw me cutting my nails with clippers and was quite interested so l took the clippers of to her and showed how they worked l lifted one of her claws and put it into the jaws of the clippers and she did not flinch but l did not have the heart to clip her nails! But l was amazed at how she trusted me.

Re: Billie2
Oh! Bless her!, no, I couldn't bring myself to cut a birds talons, we always filed our dogs nails, too easy to nip the quick. Sanjay had a lovely sing song this evening, a very priddy toon.
Re: Billie2
Yesterday we heard what sounded like a parrot call outside, Billie nearly did cart wheels she answered but there were no further calls. When l uncocvered her this morning she stood on top of her cage and called again, but that bird was long gone. Just up the road from us, is Sandwell Valley with its nature reserve and many parrots have been seen there. One of the beautiful things of living here, is that five minutes away is Victoria Park with a large lake, and in the summer the geese fly up to the Lake in Sadwell Valley honking as they go.
May I wish you and Sanjay a very Merry Christmas and a Happy new year.

Your wishes are much reciprocated. It's nice in some areas here, the parks, the herons, the embankment, where I saw a Cormorant, and of course, Woburn and Chessington not far away. Oh, goodness me, I wonder what Billie would have done if that parrot had flown in through a window?, she definitely would have believed in Santa!. Have a lovely day tomorrow, think of all the preparation that went into it!.

I am such a slob there is nothing sprecial for Christmas, just the usual steamed veg and corned beef.
Billie makes me laugh she scratches her ear and then looks at her claw as if she is expecting a bogey or ear wax! A frierd gave a me a christmas present for her two Wilco seed bars all wrapped up in gift paper, l put it on the cage for her but she was more interested in my pressies so after l had finished unwrapping mine l helped her to unwrap hers! She tucked in staraight away.
Handsworth is a snob area we have three cormorants!

At least the Christmas lights etc didn't have to compete with sunshine today!, it was a murky dismal day here. I wrap up dog treats for my neighbours dogs, and give them on the first day of the Solstice. Sanjay has been out and about more than usual, playing with his jingly balls.I don't blame you for having corned beef etc, I like a special microwave meal on weekends or bank holidays, I even considered ordering in a takeaway.

Re: Billie2
It's been nasty here all day, drizzle and wind, ugh!. It depends what you have, peter,I order from an American diner, they do amazing fried chicken. I hate hot spicy food and it hates me, I never liked sweet and sour either. When I first arrived in Hong Kong I was told "if you like sweet and sour, you will like Chinese food", Wrong!, I love chow mein, and Malay food, (Nase Goreng etc), but Indian, Mexican etc, yuk!. It's been peaceful here, and Sanjay has emptied his millet holder, and noshed the best part of his rations. Prevention is better than guilt, Don't buy it if you cannot resist it!.
Re: Billie2
You cannot beat boiled beef and carrots Dot, Curry gives me the cobbly wobblies even the smell puts me off, mind you l hate the smell of vegeatables cooking too and have never liked the kitchen smells in the house, they stay in the kitchen.
Someboady threw a brick through down stairs kitchen window and the police were here asking questions. The police man heard Billie calling so l invited him it to see her. She was very excited and sang beautifully for him but after awhile she crouched down l thought she was going to fly to his shoulder, so l hustled him out.
Billie and l share lunch, today it was cheese on toast, she had a corner followed by some yoghurt and we finish up with a water biscuit, she gets a small piece.

I like brie or mozzarella toasted, very creamy and much less saturated fat. If someone breaks a window here, we have to involve the police to get a crime reference number, for insurance purposes, but as we have double glazed windows they are very tough. How kind of Billie to entertain mister plod.
Re: Billie2
It is the same here no crime number no window! My housing officer phoned to say she could not make an appointment today and as l thought not much could be achieved this week l thought it best if she left it to Monday next week. However there are only a few more days left to endure the noise from down stairs l feel sure l can manage.
Hope your little shop of horrors are behaving themselves. Billie saw the sun come out this afternoon and she decided it was bed tme, l had to keep on telling her " NO Way!" Eventully l partially covered her at 2 pm and she was happy as a sand boy smashing up the stick and other bits floating around in the bottom of her cage. So at three she was completely covered and it went quiet within.

Re: Billie2
It was such a gorgeous day I pottered in my little garden, and, did you notice? It didn't start getting dark until 4pm, (makes not a jot of difference to Billie tho'). I must shop tomorrow, Sanjay needs a few bits and bobs and there's another inconvenient bank holiday looming. I have my own insurance, our HA doesn't "do" window replacement unless the window seal has perished etc. Our manager only works a few days a week, which is a pain at times. Oh, I dunno about you, but I shall be glad when all this silliness is over! Then I can spring clean and shampoo my carpets.
Re: Billie2
Lucky you it rained all day here l could not go for my walk around the park, and because it was overcast Billie wanted to be covered up at at 1.30 pm l made her wait until 2 pm, but after l had covered her she was moaning like the dickens so l uncovered her, she flew to my shoulder and tried to reason with me but l told her in no uncertain terms that l was not going sit in a dark room without the Tv twiddling my thumbs so afer a while she consented to go back in her cage and be covered while I sat in darkened room with ear phone on twiddlling my thumbs! (Watching the Tv!)

Re: Billie2
I caught Sanjay out this morning, it was a gloomy start to the day and fairly dark when I took the cover off, I made morning noises, but he was still asleep! With his back to me he looked quite dishevelled too. After I got home from shopping he popped out to play, and wanted to ride on the pink tray when I was carrying everything out to the kitchen for replenishing he hovered over the tray debating if he should land on it or not then wussed out!. I dunno, what with Billies antics, they make funny little flatmates, don'tthey?
Re: Billie2
Yes they do make lovely companions and l would be at a loss if she escaped or died, today she wanted to be covered at 1 pm and l told her it was too early and sat on her cage and sulked even when it got to 2.30 pm l invited her to go in she cut her nose off to spite her face and turned her back to me and pretended l was a figment of her imagination.
This morning she was very pally and noses were rubbed well beaks and noses, she sat on my shoulder. Sometimes this behaviour is a prelude to the mating season and egg laying so l am crossing my fingers she does not start.

Re: Billie2
Sanjay didn't get off his sleeping perch on the wrong side, either, he always asks for an "Eskimo kiss" first thing. I have ordered a tablet in the Curry's sale, and when I was in WH Smith, I found a pouch for it, also reduced And the last one!. I couldn't imagine my life without Sanjay, I might grumble about the mess, lets face it, they are messy little mortals., but it's not as if I have loads to do these days.
