Other birds
I'm just kinda of curious what you all think about caiques and conures?? If I was ever to get another bird, which kind do you recommend? Keep in mind I already have Jacques, my IRN. If I do get another bird, it will be a long time b/c I lost my entire house and all my belongings in Katrina so I now have to rebuild. Thank goodness, I had taken Jacques with me.
omg
How awful you lost so much in katrina, my heart goes out to u honey. Im afraid i cant give u any answers but someone else will be able to. Just had to say how sorry i was to here about ur loss.Thank gooness you are ok. Nataliexxxxxx

I've had a lot of conures....suns are awesome and entertaining, but can be very loud (though what bird isn't?!) hehehe
maroon belly! I LOVE THEM
green cheek - very cheeky birds and so far I've known 6 and they all love the taste of human blood! had one who would sit on your hand and rip out chunks and then EAT IT!! GROSS! he was a NASTY bird
gold cap - comical and you don't see them around very often anymore, I had one about 10 years ago
jenday - they are ok
haha I only had one for about 8 months before I rehabilitated and rehomed
if you get a conure...get a baby! they have been the worst to rehabilitate...it took me a year and a half to get a green cheek to the point where he would only snap at your fingers and not your face! I say go gold cap
they are BEAUTIFUL!
I haven't known many caiques...nor ever owned one...but the ones I have known are very very social, but then again are not social...my conures would go wherever I would and to whoever wanted to hold them...the caique I know will do ANYTHING to get to his owner, including jump (even if it means hitting the ground)
go meet a bunch of these guys! then decide

I have an IRN and a Nanday Conure. The Conure seemed to want to be friends with my IRN, however my IRN does NOT like the conure at all! It just depends on your IRN's personality if he/she will get along with another bird. If I do allow them both out on the same tree/play gym at the same time I have to sit on the floor next to them, so when they start to go towards each other I can hold up a wooden perch between them. That's their cue they better go to their seperate corners or they are going back into their cages. They know Mommy means business too!
The conure is VERY VERY loud and sometimes just doesn't know when to shut up no matter what I do. The conure loves to cuddle however, but he only likes my husband and only allows him to cuddle. If I try, especially if my husband is around, then I will get bit. I think the best way to get any bird is right after weaning, the reason why I say this is because all the birds I have owned have been testy except for my IRN who I have had since he was only 8 weeks old. The Conure I got when she was 2 1/2 years old, so she is pretty much set in her ways. I also have two cockatiels that I did not get as babies either and they are both little buggers as well. Definetly visit different breeds and read as much as you can on them before you make a decision. Also if you are getting a different breed of bird, it will not matter if you get a male or female. Also no matter what type of bird, even if it is another IRN, you get there will be no guarantee that the two birds will ever be friends and you will need to keep them in seperate cages and supervise them closely while they are out together. I hope any of this helps you. Good luck with whatever decision you make and keep us posted.
I am glad you and your IRN were able to escape safely from Katrina, I really feel for everyone that was affected by that terrible storm! Take Care!

i have had conures before and didnt like them as much as my other birds but i have read and seen a lot on tv that makes me believe compared to a conure id go with the caique, hands down.they seem similar to senegals and redbellies wich i have and think they make great pets. the sun conures are so noisy and loud for such a small bird i like the roars of a macaw compared to the screach of a conure, very stricking colors but to me the colors were not worth it. so i got rid of mine. this was a couple years ago when i first started getting into birds seriously and made a bad impulse decision
