Gina-Bird :o)

Post by CarolinaWren »

hello all ... just flying in from South Carolina to say hello ... i'm here with my IRN, Gina ... a rescue ... s/he was found in the wild & brought to the local vet's office, where my daughter-in-law works ... she phoned looking for a home & well, here we are!! she's been here since 16 november 2005 & has settled in well & is already spoiled! we named her for our dear friend & bird-lover, Gina, who passed away on 11 november 2004 (breast cancer). she would be SO proud!!

i'd like to put her pic on my avvie, but can't seem to figure out how ... i mean i know how to make the avatar, but the site won't let me use it?!?! any assistance would be appreciated. 8)

Gina lives here with my hubby & myself, 2 teacup Chihuahuas ~ Maggie's 12 years old today (New Year's Eve baby!) & has been blind for 5 years; Emily's 8.75 years & is her Daddy's girl; there's also Tyler Kitty, 16 years; our hamster, Scooter, 2 years (another rescue); and finally, Redbone, our betta fish (yet another rescue)!

great to have found this site ... dunno how i missed it before.

look forward to searching the site & learning some good stuff!

thanx,

Wren 8)

Welcome and a hug from over here. Welcome to the life that is living with one of these spoiled little fids. What color is Gina...I own an albino as you can see with my avatar  My bird is named Princess (for obvious reasons) but we call her Prinny.

What I did with my avatar...I sized the photo down on the paint program to the required size and posted it onto Photobucket.com. Then it gives you a link you post down on the profile section of this site.

Welcome again and you will learn a lot from this site.

thanx, Dani & Prinni!!!

I have a now 5 yr old and for soooome reason the first two hampters I got for him ended up with their poor little guts hanging out their rear-end. Noooo, she wasnt hugging them too hard.

Needless to say, he gets no more hamsters but isnt their life-span only a few years? Or no?

8) "... no self-respectin' southerner uses instant grits ..." ~ My Cousin Vinny

rofl! i LUV that line!

ok ... well, i reckon i feel comfortable sayin' y'all, then!! whew, that "you all" thing wuz killin' me!

poor little hammies!! you're right ... unfortunately, hammies don't have long life spans, but they've been known to live up to 5 years if they're properly tended to & believe me, Scooter has everything his wittle heart could want or need ... and he's such a SWEETIE ... loves to smooch & snuggle ... we just (very obviously) need to keep in mind that we have a natural "food-chain" thing going on around here & we must stay on our toes at all times ... even tho' the puppies & kitty are elderly, they STILL have those instincts & Tyler looks like a Tabby mountain lion when she sees Gina or Scooter ... she gets "the look" & "the stance" ... bad kitty!!

btw, SOOO sorry that you're having difficulties finding any good biscuits & gravy ... that's GOTTA stink!! 'course, i'm in the SC SLOWcountry, at the Georgia border, so we don't have that white "northern" gravy ... ours is more Louisiana-style, made from dark roux. it'll make ya slap grandma! but i HAVE made milk gravy before, as it's my job to do these things!

thanx again for the warm welcome!!

luv, Wren Image

PS ~ Mikaela: here's you some breakfast!!

Here are the ways fine GRITS should be savored. Sometimes topped with nice sweet butter and brown sugar and sometimes 'Jamaican Style' sprinkled with bacon bits and chile pepper. Or maybe the best way to have GRITS is just let the latent heat melt a nice piece of cheese on top and nibble around at the edges...yumm.

But you oughta know: G.R.I.T.S. = Girls Raised in the South.

Thank God Easter is here and Lent is coming to a close, I haven't had any grits since Mardi Gras.

Oh, my bird loves 'em too.

grits with sugar?!?!? NO WAY!!!

Post by CarolinaWren »

sorry, Ed, but we don't put sugar on grits around here ... that's a northern thang ... just butter, cheese & Louisiana hot sauce. save the sugar for the cream of wheat, thank you. btw, i AM a genuine G.R.I.T.S.

Julie, grits are ground corn ... larger grind than corn meal ... ever had polenta?? same thing, but larger grind. they're prepared 4 parts H2O to 1 part grits, bring to a boil & simmer for about 30 minutes, whisking several times during cooking to achieve a very creamy texture. remove from heat & add butter (NOT margarine), cheddar & Monterey Jack cheese & hot sauce to taste. they are a true southern delicacy!! 8)

That sounds wonderful Wren and I'm glad to FINALLY find out what GRITS are as we don't have such a thing here in Au. LOL Welcome to the forum, your menagerie sounds like it would keep you very busy. Gina is absolutely beautiful. I just recently got my first ringneck, a 4 mo lutino called Sunshine.
