New Ringneck -- BIG questions, please help if you can!

Post by PrettyBird24 »

Hi!

I've posted here a few times, and I finally got my baby IRN yesterday. YAY! Here he is:

His breeder said that he has been weaned for about a week. He is a wonderful eater! Eats like a little horse! I haven't named him yet, but he is the sweetest little thing I've ever seen in my life. He's extremely curious, active, and fearless! The most outgoing bird I've ever had! I do have a few questions though, so if any of you can help, please, please reply.

1. He naps quite a bit. Is this just because he is so young? My conure rarely naps during the day, but he is 3 years old. Just want to make sure it's normal.

2. He is extremely quiet! He makes very soft little chirps and tweets, and not that often. He sometimes makes a very soft but high pitched "oooooooooh! oooooooooh!" It kind of sounds pitiful -- are these normal vocalizations for a baby IRN? Again, my conure screamed like a macaw from day one, so it is strange for me to have a quiet bird.

3. The breeder said that my bird's mother was a lutino, and his father was a blue. Does this make him blue split to lutino or vice versa, or is he just a normal green because he IS green? I don't want to call him something that he's not and make myself look like a dunce!

I'd appreciate any help with these matters that I can get. I posted them on the Bird Talk Magazine forum, but alas the members were clueless. :(

He's a baby so as long as he's eating and pooing and is wakeful it's fine.
My girls are quiet. It seems to be an individual thing. Your baby is gorgeous. Jeremy is the one who's brilliant about the whole breeding thing. Try a PM if he doesn't answer this.

Oh thank you! That makes me feel much better! Yes, he eats like a horse and all his little poops have been normal. Wow, I really appreciate your reply!

Hey Prettybird 24,

I've not had baby baby irns before so I can't help much in that aspect. Just want to let you know how dang cute your baby is! And be thankful, VERY THANKFUL, that the little one is quiet for now! My Byndi was quiet when we first brought her home and so was Remmi--now they SCREAM! And scream, and scream! At least today that's all they're doing! Remmi is out here with me now chewing on a pen and my purse. He's so onery! Anyway welcome to the board, please keep posting and keep the pictures coming.

Hugs,
Jen

1) Young babies do like to sleep a lot. Once they get older it will become a less regular thing to do

2) They are generally quiet as babies, but they will find their voice eventually.

3) If your new baby is a Boy he will be Green/Blue/Lutino. If you new baby is a girl she will be Green/Blue

Congrats on the new baby, looks like a realy cutie :D

Oh, thank you all so much for your compliments and all the help! I can rest a little bit easier now! He's sleeping on my shoulder pressed up against my cheek now -- he's simply a dream come true! The sweetest little bird I've ever met!

I hope his good behavior will eventually rub off on Loco, my conure. :) Loco is tame, but is not by any means a cuddler like this little one!

Again, thank you all so much. You've been more than helpful!
