I just had to share this with all the my fellow people who just loves their IRN's. Last night I was eating some chips and my IRN, standing on his perch, walked to the corner of his cage where he could see me, and he looked at me with such sadness in his eyes. And then I couldn't resist, I gave him one chip and then he went to his little corner where he ate his chip and when he was finished he came again for the second time, and again I gave him a chip.
Last night I realised I love my IRN as a baby. I don't have kids of my own yet. I just can't believe I grew so attached to my IRN.
When I let my IRN out of his cage he follows me around and when I am not around or he can't see me, then he makes awful, loud sounds, and then when he sees me again, he is so still.
I JUST LOVE MY IRN TO BITS, and some people think I am mad, how can anyone love a bird so much. But they just don't understand.......
Just to cute!!!!

I too have an unhealthy attachment to my bird. She too is my Baby, infact, thats her name.
She is my best friend. On her bad days when she doesnt want to play, I am sad and lonely. When people ask' Wanna go....', my repsponse is 'If I can take Baby'.
So, yeah... I relate. But I have 30 yrs with her so I can let the relationship be a little unhealthy right now. Work on it later.
Oh, and she prefers salt and vinager chips or doritos. She doesnt eat any of it. Just likes to break it and make a mess.

Mikaela,
I would just like to know, when does it become unhealthy for a bird to clean himself.
My IRN loves combing himself but I have noticed feathers falling off. I don't know if this is normal, and some of his tail feathers had fallen off as well.
Is he frustrated or is it just his way of combing himself?

Totally Smitten with IRN
I hear what you are saying. I have never had any birds other than a budgie and a Java Rice finch. Nikki is my first parrot.
Other than that I have had dogs, and horses my whole life before I became disabled. I do miss the horses from time to time.
I have only had her for 2 months. I am SO amazed and enthralled with this bird. I am surprised at my own feelings for her as I get to know her and see how she responds to me.
I can literally FEEL the bond forming between us day by day.
One thing that gets me, I have read where these birds are so intelligent. I have found it is one thing to read a statement like that, it is quite another to experience it first-hand.
I find myself taking such delight seeing her enjoy her red peppers and peanuts. And when I give her new foods to try, she is often curious eager to taste them.
She seems to be a bit moody some mornings, but after she has a good screaming session she feels better. I am hoping that the screaming will stop someday.
Anyway, its good to have the folks in the forum to share with!
Y'all rock!!
