Hello all,
I am a little worried, Bobby just loves a piece of cheese but I rather think it would not be good for him. Should I let him have it?
Also could you tell me if it is harmful for him to live in the lounge with us, the TV is on most of the time, would it be too stressful for him?
Rosemary
should I give him cheese

Cheese is a dairy product, and normally, birds don't like it. Too much isn't good, but once a week wouldn't do harm i'd believe. Kiki has tea each day, but we minimize the milk, and only add small amounts, the rest of it, we fill up with water which is good for her. We also don't give caffeine tea, and only caffeine free tea. We give honey instead of sugar.
The T.V. room is not a stressful room for your bird, and he/she might like it more even. The only problem that comes in is that birds vocalize more and will compete against any appliance that makes more noise than they, so ideally choose another room such as the family room if you don't want your bird screaming louder than the T.V. when seeking your attention

Thank you for your reply, and very interested to see Kiki and all her toys, she is a lucky IRN, I can see that Bobby needs a few new ones to keep him interested.
I only give him a very small piece of cheese, so I am sure the amount he gets would not hurt him. He is the same as Kiki, loves to help get the meals, and have a taste as well. He is a blue IRN. Thanks again.

Did you read about Kiki on her site
? Kiki says: "Thank You!"
Yes, she often helps out during our meal preparing time, and her job is to taste the foods
! You guessed it, she loves it!
I have another large section to her page>>

Yes, just a little cheese will probably not hurt him. I think, check out your avian vet and ask him/her about it just to make sure (and inform me if I might be wrong). You can freecall them; i've done that

All the sites I have come across regarding foods for IRN's all agree that a LITTLE bit of dairy a week is not bad for them.. Some have even said that a bit of yoghurt can be given to them - this is obviously because they recieve some amount of calcium from it (and we all know how important calcium is for our birdies
)..
So yeah, as long as it's not too much, you're safe!

Hi everyone I'm new here. I just wanted to say that I have had my IRN for almost 9 years and she eats almost anything. Every time I eat something she wants it. She loves coffee and bread. The only thing I dont like to give her is hot cheetos. So far she is healthy and I haven't had any problems with her.
