Query About Alexandrines

Dear Members;

I have an adult alex pair which are going through their anual molt. The female dropped its main tale feather a few days back, snap shared below :-

As can be seen the feather shaft is brown . I need to ask from experts if normal green alexandrines have black feather shafts of central tail or brown ? Does it show presence of any split ?

I was comparing it with below snap shared earlier on the forum of various mutations of alexandrines and this one doesn't seem to match with anyone:

My bird looks exactly like his parents. They are not split for anything. They are pure Alexandrines - Sub Species Nepalese

Do you have any history on your birds parents?

Hi Skyes_crew thanks for your reply, you have a beautiful looking bird how old is it in this snap ?

no I don't have any history of her parents; however I can tell from the ring that the bird is 2011 bred. It should breed in the coming season.

My Alex in the first pic was 4 months old at the time. He is now 5 months.

Your hen is a nice beautiful size. And her sub species looks to be Nepalese also. They are the largest sub species of the alexandrines and in my opinion the most beautiful. Only bird prettier than this one is a lutino. Do you have a pic showing her chest?

Thanks Skyes_crew, yeah both she and her mate are Nepalese sub-species. Earlier I discussed about her sub-species from another senior member Mr Lee Naidoo from SA and he also confirmed that it is Nepalese. Here is a snap of her from back in Nov 2012

She is just so beautiful. I would love to see pics of her mate if you have any. I can not wait for my male to mature fully. You are a lucky person to have such a beautiful pair. Hold on to them


Edit: also don't be surprised if you wind up with male chicks from your pair that have a black ring by 5-7 weeks of age. Apparently it's common in the Nepalese sub species. It makes sexing them easy
