O/T Im not a good American...

Post by Mikaela »

I am so ashamed of myself. I just got called for jury duty and I want no part of it. I appreciate being an American, always seen myself as extremely patriotic.

I remember how proud I felt at a parade one afternoon. Baby Jared (now almost 6) was in his little stroller and I bent down and kissed him. I then put a little American flag in his hand. His daddy said, "I'll never forget the first person to put an American flag into my babies hand". He is very patriotic and not happy that Im trying to ditch jury duty. Just talking about that day makes me emotional. There he was, waving his little flag, trying to eat it too but hey, he was a baby.

Then I check my mail and there is the summons to appear and the first thing I said was "I aint doing this crap". It is bad enough that I am an American that doesnt want to do their civil duty, I am also a licensed attorney, though I dont practice now that Im married. I got my real estate license and went into wealth management to care for our four kids.

Im so torn. And ashamed.

Just go and commit a crime. You can't do jury duty if you have a criminal history!!!

lol

Thanks for making me lighten up about the whole thing.

I am going to just say I have an uncle inprisoned for murder and due to that, I dont feel I could find anyone quilty if it meant imprisonment.

That way, no lie, no guilt, no getting picked.

My stupid uncle was ignorant enough to kill a guy over some ho that didnt want him.

*shakes her head*

Well there you go.

What works well here in Queensland, Australia, and I have personally used it....I tell them as I work as a paralegal in a law firm, i find it hard to be impartial because I have been trained to believe my clients story and disbelieve the crown (prosecutors) so therefore, through no conscious decision, I would be on the side of the alleged 'bad guy'. Works a treat.

Well:

Im still torn, see I moved on my birthday (Dec) and it went to that address. However, I put in a change of address at the post office so I received it.

I guess I'll stop thinking about it and hope it goes away hehe.

I'm sure there are other people that wouldnt mind doing that. Let them do it.
Dont be ashamed Mikaela if you dont want to do it, dont. Doesnt mean you are any less patriotic. You can show your patriotism though other means.

I'm sure if you were a defence attourney you did more for americans than most other patriotic americans.
